Overview
For shopping, dining, and evenings in central Nagoya, Nagoya Sakae Station is the main subway stop for Nagoya-Sakae, the city's busiest entertainment district. The Higashiyama and Meijo lines meet beneath a dense area of department stores, underground arcades, offices, restaurants, and evening venues.
There are no long-distance trains here. Two stops west, Nagoya Station handles the Shinkansen and regional JR trains. Meitetsu airport and Kintetsu services use adjacent terminals.
Lines and connections
Sakae is H10 on the Higashiyama Line. Westbound trains reach Fushimi in one stop and Nagoya Station in two, while eastbound services continue through central and eastern Nagoya toward Fujigaoka.
Sakae carries the code M05 on the Meijo Line. The loop runs north through Hisaya-odori and south through Yabacho before continuing toward Kanayama and Nagoya Castle. Adjacent Sakaemachi Station is separate and serves the Meitetsu Seto Line toward northeastern Nagoya and Seto.
Airport access
There is no direct airport train from Sakae. For a rail journey to Centrair, take the Higashiyama Line to Nagoya Station and change to Meitetsu. The fastest Mu Sky trains take about 28 minutes from Meitetsu Nagoya.
Centrair limousine buses also serve the Sakae bus terminal at Oasis 21. The bus avoids a rail transfer. Timetables and road conditions matter more than they do by train.
Station area
Underground shopping passages connect with the station, and exits are spread around the Sakae intersection. Oasis 21 and the bus terminal are on the northeastern side; the main department stores and shopping blocks extend south and west.
Dormy Inn Premium Nagoya Sakae is about five minutes away toward the Fushimi side of the district. Hotels farther north may be closer to Hisaya-odori Station, while those farther south may be closer to Yabacho.
What's nearby
Hisaya-odori Park, Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER, and Oasis 21 form the main landmark cluster. Department stores, underground malls, restaurants, bars, and event venues fill the surrounding blocks.
Good to know
Sakae Station and Sakaemachi Station are adjacent but have different operators. Use Sakae for the municipal subway and Sakaemachi for the Meitetsu Seto Line.
With so many exits, a short distance on the map can be misleading. Check the nearest exit before leaving the paid area, especially if you're carrying luggage or heading west toward Fushimi.
