What this station is useful for

Overview

Haneda Airport is one direct monorail ride away. JR trains cover much of central Tokyo, while the station lies between two contrasting hotel districts: Daimon and Tokyo Tower to the west, and the Tokyo-Shibaura waterfront to the east. With luggage, your exit matters.

Nearby Daimon Station adds two Toei subway lines, but its gates are separate. Hamamatsucho doesn't have Shinkansen platforms, so Tokyo Station or Shinagawa Station is the better departure point for bullet trains.

Lines and connections

JR East serves Hamamatsucho with the Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines, providing straightforward north-south travel through central Tokyo. Monorail Hamamatsucho is the starting point for airport-bound Tokyo Monorail trains.

Daimon serves the Toei Asakusa and Oedo lines. It's nearby, but it isn't another set of Hamamatsucho gates. Check the line name before following signs, especially when changing between JR, the monorail, and the subway.

Airport access

Tokyo Monorail trains run directly from Hamamatsucho to Haneda Airport Terminal 3, Terminal 1, and Terminal 2. Check your airline's terminal before boarding because each one has its own station.

Staying nearby can remove an extra city transfer before an early flight or after a late arrival. Back at Hamamatsucho, the Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines handle onward travel around central Tokyo.

Station area

West of the tracks, streets around Daimon pass offices and restaurants on the way to Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower. To the east, Kyu-Shiba-rikyu Gardens marks the approach to the newer waterfront side.

Green Walk provides a covered route from Hamamatsucho to Blue Front Shibaura, about six minutes away. Fairmont Tokyo occupies the upper floors of Tower S there, adding a major hotel to the newer waterfront district served by the station.

What's nearby

Kyu-Shiba-rikyu Gardens is about one minute from the North Exit, an unusually easy sightseeing stop between trains or before a flight. On the west side, Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower can be combined in the same walk.

Good to know

For a meetup, specify JR Hamamatsucho, Monorail Hamamatsucho, or Daimon. They're close, but they don't share one set of gates. For Shinkansen departures, continue by JR to Tokyo Station or Shinagawa Station.
