Overview
Gion is one of Kyoto’s best-known visitor areas, with traditional streets, teahouse districts, and an atmosphere that lends itself especially well to evening walks. It is also a convenient starting point for exploring nearby Higashiyama sights.
Getting there
The area is served by Keihan access at Gion-Shijo Station, with nearby Hankyu connections also useful for reaching central Kyoto and the surrounding districts.
Good to know
Gion is best experienced at an unhurried pace, with time to wander its streets and continue toward the Higashiyama area.
