Kiyomizu-Gojo Station

By Gojo Bridge on the Kamo River, Kiyomizu-Gojo Station connects travelers with Gion, Fushimi Inari, and the 25-minute walk to Kiyomizu-dera.

What this station is useful for

Overview

Beside Gojo Bridge on the Kamo River, Kiyomizu-Gojo is Keihan's KH38 stop for Gojo Street and the western approach to southern Higashiyama. Despite the name, Kiyomizu-dera isn't just outside the station. The walk takes about 25 minutes.

For hotels and plans around Gojo Street, the river, and southern Higashiyama, this stop may be more convenient than Gion-Shijo Station. Central Gion, Pontocho, and Yasaka Shrine are closer to Gion-Shijo, one stop north.

Lines and connections

Sub-express and local trains stop here. Limited express trains pass through. Northbound services run to Gion-Shijo, Sanjo, and Demachiyanagi, while southbound trains head toward Shichijo, Tofukuji, and Fushimi Inari. The Keihan network also continues toward Osaka, with a change for the Uji Line farther south.

Kyoto Station isn't on the Keihan network. An all-rail trip from there uses the JR Nara Line to Tofukuji, followed by a change to Keihan. It requires one transfer but avoids road traffic that can delay buses to the Kiyomizu area.

Station area

The exits open at the eastern end of Gojo Bridge, where Gojo Street crosses the Kamo River. Riverside paths are nearby, and the station serves hotels along Gojo Street and the western approach to Kiyomizu.

What's nearby

Reaching Kiyomizu-dera still requires about 25 minutes on foot, so don't treat the station as a temple entrance. This rail-and-walk route can be helpful when buses from Kyoto Station are crowded or delayed. Beyond the immediate station area, temple streets, ceramics shops, and walking routes continue through southern Higashiyama.

Good to know

Don't confuse Kiyomizu-Gojo with Gojo Station. Kiyomizu-Gojo is on the Keihan Main Line near the Kamo River, while Gojo Station is farther west on the subway Karasuma Line. They are separate stations, not an interchange, so check which one is closer to your hotel before choosing a route.
