Overview
A one-minute walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station puts Hotel SUI Kyoto Kiyomizu close to Keihan trains and the western edge of southern Higashiyama. The Kamo River is nearby, while Kiyomizu-dera, Gion, and Sanjusangendo are within the wider walking area.
The hotel reopened under its current name in April 2025, replacing Hotel Abest Grande Kyoto Kiyomizu. Rooms range from compact doubles to a suite, while scheduled afternoon and evening services bring welcome refreshments, happy hour, and a night snack to the lobby.
Rooms
Most double and twin rooms measure between 16.95 and 21.75 square meters. Deluxe view twins increase that to 25.23 square meters, the universal twin measures 33.9 square meters, and the suite reaches 43.5 square meters. Selected deluxe twin layouts can accommodate a third guest on a sofa bed.
The larger categories differ in more than floor space. View rooms look across Kyoto, the universal twin has an accessible layout, and the suite includes a private kitchen and coffee machine, plus separate bath, toilet, and washbasin areas. The entire hotel is non-smoking, with a designated outdoor smoking area.
Facilities
The scheduled lobby program is the hotel's most distinctive shared feature. It includes matcha with a sweet, complimentary drinks during happy hour, and udon later in the evening. Service windows can change, so check the day's schedule after arrival.
The lounge has self-service drinks and power outlets. Two washer-dryer units, free luggage storage before check-in and after checkout, and bicycle rentals are helpful for longer visits and days spent beyond the immediate neighborhood.
Dining
The first-floor restaurant serves a paid breakfast buffet from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM, with last entry at 9:00 AM. The selection combines Japanese and Western dishes, desserts, drinks, and gently seasoned Kyoto-style breakfast fare.
There is no conventional lunch or dinner restaurant service. Instead, evenings center on the guest-only YOASOBI snack bar, where karaoke accompanies drinks and snacks. Some rates include special bar privileges, so check exactly what your booked plan covers.
Location and transport
Exit 2 of Kiyomizu-Gojo Station is one minute away. Northbound Keihan trains serve Gion-Shijo Station and Sanjo before continuing to Demachiyanagi. Southbound services connect with Tofukuji and Fushimi Inari before continuing toward Osaka. At Tofukuji, travelers can transfer to the JR Nara Line for Kyoto Station.
This is an east-side Kyoto location, not a stay beside the Shinkansen platforms. Arriving by long-distance rail usually requires a change at Tofukuji, a bus, or a taxi for the final leg. Once you've checked in, the one-minute walk to the Keihan platforms is especially convenient for daily trips along Kyoto's eastern corridor.
Airport access
From Kansai International Airport, the Haruka limited express runs to Kyoto Station, followed by a local rail transfer or taxi to the hotel. Airport buses from Osaka International Airport also serve Kyoto Station's Hachijo side, with another local connection needed afterward. Neither option reaches the hotel door directly.
A scheduled morning shuttle leaves the hotel for Kyoto Station every 30 minutes from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. It has nine seats, with advance reservations accepted on a first-come basis. The shuttle can simplify departure, but it isn't available for arrivals and doesn't provide direct airport service.
Why stay here
The one-minute walk to Keihan trains is the clearest advantage for days focused on eastern Kyoto. Larger room choices and complimentary lobby services add flexibility beyond a minimal stay near the station, though Shinkansen and airport journeys still require a local transfer.
The surrounding Kyoto-Gion area rewards exploration on foot. Temple approaches and pottery shops define Kiyomizu, while Gion adds teahouse streets, restaurants, and evening drinks. Together, they allow for early sightseeing and a relaxed return close to the hotel.
Good to know
Hotel SUI Kyoto Kiyomizu is the current operating name. Its former name, Hotel Abest Grande Kyoto Kiyomizu, still appears on some older reservation pages and in parts of the hotel's own English FAQ.
Kiyomizu-Gojo Station is beside the hotel, but Kiyomizu-dera isn't. The hotel gives a walking time of about 20 minutes to the temple, so allow longer than the station name might suggest. There is no hotel parking.
