Overview
One name covers four operators. Shimbashi Station brings JR East, Tokyo Metro, Toei Subway, and the Yurikamome together on the western edge of Tokyo-Shimbashi / Shiodome.
For travel across central Tokyo, Shimbashi offers the broader range of connections in this area. JR and the Ginza Line handle many everyday city trips, the Asakusa Line connects with both airport rail networks, and the Yurikamome begins its waterfront route here. Shiodome Station is closer to the high-rise tower district and also serves the Oedo Line.
Lines and connections
The JR lines cover several distinct trip patterns. The Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines run north and south through central Tokyo. Tokaido Line trains continue toward Shinagawa, Yokohama, and Odawara, while the Yokosuka Line provides the better direct route toward Yokohama and Kamakura.
Shimbashi is G08 on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, one stop from Ginza. Eastbound trains reach Ginza before continuing toward Ueno and Asakusa. Westbound service runs via Toranomon and Aoyama toward Shibuya.
The Toei Asakusa Line serves Shimbashi as A10, between Daimon and Higashi-ginza. The Yurikamome starts at U01, calling first at Shiodome before continuing along the bay through Odaiba, Ariake, and Toyosu.
Airport access
The Toei Asakusa Line connects with the Keikyu network toward Haneda Airport and the Keisei network toward Narita Airport. On a suitable through train, the journey between Haneda and Shimbashi takes about 30 minutes. Keisei Access Express services can also connect Shimbashi directly with Narita.
Not every Asakusa Line departure serves an airport. Check the destination, service type, and airport terminal before boarding, especially when you're carrying luggage or catching a timed flight. The Skyliner is a separate Narita service to Nippori and Ueno; it doesn't run through Shimbashi.
Station area
The east side opens toward Shiodome's towers, hotels, and pedestrian decks. Tokyo Metro exits 2 and 4 are among the routes toward Sio-Site, while the JR Shiodome Exit is the clearest sign to follow from the JR concourse.
West of the tracks, the atmosphere changes quickly. SL Square, narrow restaurant lanes, izakaya, and standing bars have made Shimbashi one of central Tokyo's best-known after-work districts. That combination supports both business-day arrivals and late meals close to the train home.
What's nearby
The reconstructed Old Shimbashi Station recalls the starting point of Japan's first railway. Hibiya Okuroji brings shops and restaurants beneath the tracks toward Yurakucho, while Hama-rikyu Gardens lies beyond the Shiodome side.
Conrad Tokyo is about seven minutes away on foot. The route passes through the Shiodome side of the district, so choosing the correct exit matters more than the straight-line distance might suggest.
Good to know
The JR, Tokyo Metro, Toei, and Yurikamome facilities are close together, but they don't share one compact set of gates. Allow extra time for a first transfer, and confirm the operator before choosing a meeting point.
Shimbashi has no Shinkansen platforms. Use Tokyo Station or Shinagawa for bullet trains, then continue by local rail or taxi. For Conrad Tokyo and the Oedo Line, Shiodome Station usually provides the shorter final approach.
