Overview
Yokohama's modern skyline district was built where the city meets the port. Yokohama-Minatomirai stretches from Landmark Tower and Queen's Square toward Pacifico Yokohama and the Shinko waterfront, with Minatomirai Station at its center.
Waterfront paths and large indoor complexes make it easy to combine sightseeing and shopping with an event schedule. This is modern Yokohama, distinct from the older port streets around Kannai and Chinatown.
What the area is known for
The skyline is only half the appeal. Minato Mirai combines offices and convention venues with museums, waterfront parks, and large shopping complexes. It feels polished and spacious beside Yokohama's denser older neighborhoods.
After dark, the Ferris wheel, towers, and harbor reflections create one of the city's best-known evening walks. By day, the same routes connect museums, indoor shopping, and family attractions.
Main places
Landmark Tower and Queen's Square form the main shopping and hotel cluster. Pacifico Yokohama and Rinko Park continue toward the bay, while Yokohama Museum of Art is on the inland side of the station. The Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu is inside Queen's Square and directly connected to the station.
Across the water, Cosmo Clock 21 marks Yokohama Cosmo World. The Cup Noodles Museum and Red Brick Warehouse extend the sightseeing route into Shinko, where converted port buildings share the waterfront with newer attractions.
Stations and access
Minatomirai Station is the closest stop for Queen's Square, Pacifico Yokohama, and the central district. The Minatomirai Line reaches Yokohama Station in about three minutes, and many westbound trains continue onto the Tokyu Toyoko Line toward Shibuya. Eastbound trains serve Bashamichi, Nihon-odori Station, and Motomachi-Chukagai.
Sakuragicho Station, served by JR and the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line, is another approach to the district's southern side. It's better for JR arrivals, the moving walkway to Landmark Tower, and the Yokohama Air Cabin. Minatomirai Station is closer to Queen's Square and Pacifico.
Where it fits in a trip
Stay here for waterfront views, museums, shopping, conventions, or evenings beside the illuminated skyline. Families also benefit from the concentration of major attractions and broad pedestrian routes near the bay.
Compare it with Yokohama Station Area when wider rail connections and airport logistics matter more, or with Yokohama-Kannai for Chinatown, Yokohama Stadium, and older port streets. Minato Mirai favors scenery and large visitor complexes over local neighborhood atmosphere.
Good to know
Minatomirai Station and Sakuragicho Station serve different sides of the same broad waterfront district. Check the nearest entrance for your hotel or venue before arriving with luggage.
Indoor links around Queen's Square and Landmark Tower help in bad weather, but they don't cover the whole waterfront. Reaching the Red Brick Warehouse, Shinko piers, and parks still requires some outdoor walking.
