What this station is useful for

Overview

Takamatsu Station brings JR trains, island ferries, and direct airport buses together along the city's waterfront. It serves the Yosan and Kotoku lines beside Sunport Takamatsu, while Takamatsu Port is about five minutes away on foot. The separate Kotoden station, Takamatsu-Chikko Station, is also nearby.

The compact layout helps with early ferries and rail arrivals when you're carrying luggage. Hotels and everyday services cluster around the Takamatsu Station Area. For covered shopping arcades and a denser choice of dining streets, continue inland toward Takamatsu-Kawaramachi.

Lines and connections

Yosan Line trains run west across northern Shikoku and over the Seto Ohashi toward Okayama. The Kotoku Line heads east toward Tokushima.

Kotoden is separate. Walk from the JR station to Takamatsu-Chikko for trains toward Kotohira and Nagao. Shido Line journeys require a change at Kawaramachi, an important distinction when planning local trips to Ritsurin Garden or Kotohira.

Airport access

There is no airport train. Kotoden Bus operates a direct limousine bus between Takamatsu Airport and the station, with a journey time of about 40 minutes. Departures follow flight schedules, and the timetable changes regularly, so check it before travelling.

Station area

TAKAMATSU ORNE, station shops, and coin lockers cover food, shopping, and luggage storage. Immediately north of the tracks, Sunport Takamatsu opens onto the waterfront. Tamamo Park is a few minutes away near Takamatsu-Chikko.

This side of central Takamatsu is quieter and more focused on transport than Kawaramachi. Its chief advantages are straightforward JR connections, easy ferry departures, and hotels close to the station.

What's nearby

Ferries leave Takamatsu Port for Naoshima, Shodoshima, and other Setouchi islands. Piers and ticket counters vary by route and operator, so confirm the correct boarding point instead of assuming every ferry uses the same place.

Ritsurin Garden lies outside the immediate station district but can be reached by local JR train, bus, or Kotoden. If time is short before a train or ferry, Tamamo Park is closer.

Good to know

Takamatsu isn't a Shinkansen station. Arriving from the Shinkansen network requires a change at Okayama, followed by conventional JR rail across the Seto Ohashi.
