Overview
Takamatsu-Kawaramachi is the central inland area around Kawaramachi Station, south of the waterfront gateway at Takamatsu Station. It is a practical base for travelers who want Kotoden access, central shopping streets, airport limousine bus stops, and hotels closer to the commercial core than to the port.
What the area is known for
The area is defined by Kotoden rail links, nearby shopping arcades, Chuo Park, and routes toward Ritsurin Garden. It plays a different role from the Takamatsu Station waterfront: Kawaramachi is better suited to the city’s central shopping and dining scene, while the station and port area is more convenient for JR trains, ferries, and Sunport Takamatsu.
Stations and access
Kawaramachi Station is the main rail hub for the area. Kotoden routes connect it with Takamatsu-Chikko, Kotohira, Nagao, and Shido, and the Shido Line uses Kawaramachi as its Takamatsu-side terminal. Airport limousine buses also serve central stops, including Nakajincho, making the area practical for flights even without airport rail service.
Where it fits in a trip
Choose this area if shopping streets, Kotoden routes, airport limousine bus access, or approaches to Ritsurin Garden matter more than staying beside JR Takamatsu and the port. Choose the Takamatsu Station Area instead if luggage handling, ferries, JR rail, or early waterfront departures are the priority.
