What this station is useful for

Overview

Kanazawa Station is the main arrival point for Kanazawa and the station that most rail travelers use first. It links Hokuriku Shinkansen services with regional rail, station-side hotels, shopping, buses, taxis, and tourist information, making it the practical gateway for both short city visits and onward Hokuriku travel.

Lines and connections

Hokuriku Shinkansen services connect Kanazawa with the Tokyo, Toyama, Fukui, and Tsuruga directions. Travelers coming from Osaka or Kyoto use limited express trains to Tsuruga, then transfer to the Hokuriku Shinkansen for Kanazawa.

The conventional-line side is served by IR Ishikawa Railway, with JR Nanao Line services also relevant for trips toward Nanao and Wakura Onsen. A nearby Hokuriku Railroad transfer adds access to the Asanogawa Line, but visitors should treat it as a separate local railway connection rather than one of the main JR or IR platforms.

Airport access

Komatsu Airport access works by bus through Kanazawa Station. This makes the station the main airport-transfer point for visitors flying into or out of the Kanazawa area, especially when staying near the station or continuing by Shinkansen and regional rail.

Station area

The Kenrokuen Exit side is the station's main visitor-facing entrance, with the Motenashi Dome, Tsuzumi-mon Gate, bus terminal, taxis, and tourist information close at hand. Shopping and dining around the station include station-linked commercial facilities, while hotels cluster within easy reach of the east and west station plazas.

What is nearby

Kanazawa's best-known sightseeing areas are not all beside the station. The station is instead the place to start local movement: loop buses from the East Gate side connect with Omicho Market, Higashi Chaya District, Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and Nagamachi Samurai District.

Good to know

Choose Kanazawa Station as a base when rail timing, luggage handling, airport buses, or onward travel matter most. For sightseeing, plan on buses, taxis, or longer walks from the station area, especially for the garden, castle, museum, and historic districts.
