Overview
Tenjin Station serves the Tenjin side of central Fukuoka on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line. It is a major gateway to one of the city's key shopping, dining, office, and hotel districts, with underground access to Tenjin Chikagai and convenient connections to Tenjin-minami Station, Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station, and the Tenjin expressway bus terminal.
Lines and access
The station is served by the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line as station K08. For visitors, it provides direct subway access between Tenjin, Hakata, and Fukuoka Airport, making it a practical base in the city center without staying right next to Hakata Station.
Area orientation
Use Tenjin Station for department stores, underground shopping, restaurants, bars, Daimyo, Oyafuko Street, ACROS Fukuoka, and hotels on the Tenjin side of the city center. It is also useful for navigating transfers through the underground mall toward Tenjin-minami and Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin).
Why use this station
Tenjin Station is best suited to travelers whose Fukuoka plans center on shopping, dining, nightlife, and city-center hotels, while still requiring easy access to the airport and Hakata. Shinkansen travelers will still need Hakata Station for the train itself, so Tenjin works better as a central-city base than as a stay directly beside the Shinkansen platforms.
Good to know
Tenjin, Tenjin-minami, and Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) are connected within the broader Tenjin station area, but they serve different lines and have separate entrances. Check the exact exit before meeting someone or walking to a hotel.
