Overview
At the south end of Tenjin, Richmond Hotel Fukuoka Tenjin is about three minutes from two stations with different strengths. Tenjin-minami Station has direct Nanakuma Line trains to Hakata Station, while Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station serves routes south of the city. Tenjin Station is about ten minutes away for Airport Line trains.
The department stores and underground mall of Fukuoka-Tenjin are close by, along with the restaurants and shops of Watanabe-dori. Hakata is a quick subway trip from Tenjin-minami. Reaching Fukuoka Airport without changing trains, however, requires the longer walk to Tenjin Station.
Rooms
Moderate rooms measure 18 square meters and have a 154-centimeter bed and work desk. The 20.6-square-meter Corner Double provides more floor space, while the 26.4-square-meter Deluxe Double can sleep three with an extra bed.
Standard and Hollywood Twin rooms measure 27 to 28 square meters. At 30 square meters, the Richmond Twin accommodates up to four with extra beds and is the most flexible layout for families or friends sharing. Rooms also have Wi-Fi, humidifying air purifiers, and mobile phone chargers.
Facilities
Coin laundry and a guest microwave help with longer stays. The hotel also has a 32-space mechanical car park, though spaces are assigned on a first-come basis and can't be reserved.
Dining
Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:00, with last orders at 9:30. The first-floor restaurant serves more than 60 Japanese and Western items, including Fukuoka dishes such as mizutaki, sesame sea bream, and mentaiko.
Location and transport
For the shortest walk from Tenjin-minami, follow signs for West 12-C, which is different from Exit 12. The south exit of Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station is also about three minutes away. Its adjoining rail and bus complex is convenient for Nishitetsu journeys and expressway buses.
Tenjin Chikagai connects much of the district below street level. Nishitetsu trains run toward southern Fukuoka, with connections for Dazaifu, while the Nanakuma Line goes directly from Tenjin-minami to Hakata.
Airport access
Direct subway service to Fukuoka Airport uses the Airport Line from Tenjin Station, about ten minutes away on foot. Alternatively, take the Nanakuma Line from Tenjin-minami to Hakata and transfer to the Airport Line there. With luggage, the choice is between a longer walk and a direct train, or a shorter walk followed by one transfer.
Why stay here
Downtown shopping, Tenjin dining, and Nishitetsu trips south of central Fukuoka are the main reasons to stay here. Direct Nanakuma Line trains also keep Hakata convenient for Shinkansen connections.
For an airport-focused or Shinkansen-heavy itinerary, staying around Hakata is simpler. Tenjin has the advantage when you want department stores, restaurants, and evening plans within walking distance.
Good to know
The hotel is scheduled to close for a full renovation from August 17 through December 23, 2026, with reopening planned for December 24. Reservations for stays after reopening are currently paused, so check availability before making plans.
