Overview
South of central Nagoya, Kanayama Station brings JR, Meitetsu, and the municipal subway together in one connected complex within Nagoya-Kanayama. From here, travelers can take a direct airport train, reach Nagoya Station in about five minutes, or connect to routes across the city.
It isn't a Shinkansen stop. Kanayama is better suited to transfers and everyday city travel, while Nagoya Station handles bullet trains and Sakae has the largest concentration of downtown shopping and nightlife.
Lines and connections
JR Central serves Kanayama on the Tokaido Main Line and Chuo Main Line. Nagoya Station is about five minutes away, with transfers there to the Tokaido Shinkansen. Depending on the service, the two lines also support regional trips toward Gifu, Toyohashi, Tajimi, and other destinations.
Meitetsu Kanayama, numbered NH34, is on the Nagoya Main Line. Trains run toward Meitetsu Nagoya and Chubu Centrair International Airport, along with destinations across the wider Meitetsu network.
Below ground, Kanayama is M01 on the Meijo Line and E01 on the Meiko Line. The Meijo Line circles central Nagoya through Sakae and Nagoyajo, while the Meiko Line continues toward Nagoya Port.
Airport access
Meitetsu operates direct trains to Chubu Centrair International Airport. The fastest Mu-Sky services take about 25 minutes, which can simplify an early flight or a luggage-heavy arrival.
There's no need to travel through Nagoya Station for Centrair. Check the current Meitetsu timetable before leaving, along with whether your chosen service requires a first-class car ticket in addition to the base fare.
Station area
The north exit opens toward Asunal Kanayama, a shopping and dining complex organized around an event space. Nearby in Loop Kanayama, the Kanayama Tourist Information Center provides English-language assistance, sightseeing information, ticket sales, and baggage storage.
The south exit leads toward performance venues and ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Grand Court Nagoya. A covered walkway reaches the hotel in about one minute, which is welcome in rainy weather or when you're carrying luggage.
What's nearby
Atsuta Jingu is a short Meitetsu ride away. The Meiko Line provides a direct subway route toward Nagoya Port and its aquarium, while Sakae, Nagoya Castle, and other central districts are reachable on the Meijo Line or with one straightforward connection.
Convenience matters more than sightseeing here. Shops, restaurants, an event space, hotels, and several rail networks make it easy to arrive, transfer, or stay overnight without building the day around the district itself.
Good to know
JR, Meitetsu, and the subway use separate ticketing and gate areas. Follow the operator signs carefully when changing trains, and allow a little extra time if you have luggage.
For a Shinkansen departure, take JR to Nagoya Station before entering the bullet-train concourse. Despite the short ride between them, Kanayama and Nagoya Station are separate hubs.
