Overview
Two neighboring stations make this Gifu's most convenient district for hotels and onward travel. Gifu Station handles JR services toward Nagoya, Gero, and Takayama, while Meitetsu Gifu Station provides routes to Nagoya, Inuyama, and Central Japan International Airport.
They aren't part of a single concourse. Hotels, restaurants, convenience stores, bus stops, and taxi stands fill the streets between and around them, so changing between the two rail operators is straightforward.
What the area is known for
This is Gifu's logistics district, not its main sightseeing quarter. It works well for late arrivals, early departures, business stays, or a stop before continuing to Gero and Takayama.
Daiwa Roynet Hotel Gifu is two minutes from Meitetsu Gifu Station and seven minutes from JR Gifu Station. Its location between them captures the main advantage of staying in this area.
Stations and access
JR trains on the Tokaido Main Line provide the conventional rail route to Nagoya, where travelers can transfer to the Tokaido Shinkansen. The Takayama Main Line heads north toward Gero and Takayama.
Meitetsu Gifu serves the Nagoya Main and Kakamigahara lines. Direct limited express trains reach Centrair in about 60 minutes, depending on the service, while trains toward Meitetsu Nagoya offer another route into the Nagoya area.
Buses continue to Gifu Park, Kawaramachi, and stops near the Nagara River. That connection matters because the city's castle, mountain, and riverside attractions aren't immediately outside either station.
Where it fits in a trip
Rail connections, airport trains, and easy luggage handling are the main reasons to stay here. Restaurants and everyday services also remain close after a day of sightseeing.
The Nagara River side has a more atmospheric setting near Kawaramachi and the cormorant-fishing docks. Staying there shortens trips to the river but adds a bus or taxi ride when arriving by train.
Good to know
JR Gifu and Meitetsu Gifu are separate stations, so check the operator and departure point before setting out. Gifu's main historical and riverside sights require a bus, taxi, or bicycle from the station area.
Gifu Castle's keep and museum are currently closed for renovation through late October 2027.
