Overview
Early departures are easier at Comfort Hotel Gifu, three minutes on foot from Gifu Station's Central North Exit and six minutes from Meitetsu Gifu Station. Breakfast begins at 6:30, while the guest library cafe stays open until midnight. Those hours also help with late arrivals or work that continues after dinner.
It's a budget hotel focused on predictable essentials rather than large rooms or full-service facilities. All rooms are non-smoking. Self check-in and check-out, coin laundry, and a 24-hour front desk keep everyday routines straightforward.
Rooms
The hotel has two main room types. The 15-square-meter Single High Class has one 123-centimeter-wide bed, while the 19-square-meter Twin Economy has two beds of the same width. Both provide Serta mattresses, bedside power, and desks for sleep and laptop work without unnecessary extras.
Singles account for 168 of the hotel's 219 rooms. The twin provides more floor space for two guests, but it remains compact and only 51 rooms are twins. If you're carrying several large bags, plan around the limited open area.
Facilities
The third-floor Comfort Library Cafe is free for overnight guests from 10:00 to midnight. The cafe works as an extension of the compact rooms. Guests can use Wi-Fi and charging points for laptop work, or have coffee or tea while browsing the book collection.
Self-service machines can shorten the usual check-in and check-out process. A 24-hour coin laundry helps on longer trips, and staff remain available around the clock.
Dining
Included breakfast is served in the library cafe from 6:30 to 9:30. The keichan chicken rice bowl made with Gifu's Hatsushimo rice gives the changing buffet a clear local touch. Familiar Japanese and Western breakfast dishes round it out.
There is no full-service restaurant for lunch or dinner. For other meals, restaurants and convenience stores are close to both stations.
Location and transport
The hotel is in the Gifu Station Area, within walking distance of the city's two central stations. JR Gifu provides Tokaido Main Line trains toward Nagoya and Takayama Main Line services toward Gero and Takayama. Meitetsu Gifu handles routes toward Nagoya, Inuyama, and Central Japan International Airport.
The stations are separate, though both are within walking distance. Most historical and riverside sights lie farther north, so visitors will usually continue by local bus or taxi.
Airport access
Direct airport limited express trains run between Meitetsu Gifu and Central Japan International Airport, with journeys taking about 60 minutes depending on the service. The six-minute walk from the hotel keeps this route manageable with luggage. Check the current timetable because stopping patterns vary, and not every departure is transfer-free.
Why stay here
A three-minute walk to JR trains and breakfast from 6:30 take some pressure off early departures, Nagoya connections, and rail day trips toward Gero or Takayama. The cafe also provides room to read or work until midnight, leaving the compact guest room mainly for sleeping.
Mount Kinka and the Nagara River define sightseeing beyond the station district. Gifu Park lies below the mountain, while Kawaramachi's old merchant streets lead toward the cormorant-fishing area. Local buses from the two stations serve these areas, so travelers can keep a station-area base while sightseeing farther north.
Good to know
Rooms are compact, especially the 15-square-meter single, and twin inventory is limited. The hotel doesn't have dedicated parking. Staff can direct drivers to nearby coin-operated lots, but current prices and availability should be checked directly.
Gifu Castle's keep and museum are closed for renovation through late October 2027, with reopening planned for November 2027. Gifu Park, Kawaramachi, the ropeway, and seasonal river activities have separate access arrangements.
