Overview
At Honmachi Station in Osaka-Honmachi, the Midosuji, Yotsubashi, and Chuo lines meet beneath one of Osaka's main business districts. The two north-south lines cover central Osaka, while the Chuo Line runs east-west toward the bay and the Osaka Castle side of the city.
It's a subway interchange, not a long-distance rail station. Its main advantage is the ability to change direction without returning to Umeda or Namba. JR and Shinkansen journeys begin elsewhere.
Lines and connections
Honmachi is M18 on the Midosuji Line, Y13 on the Yotsubashi Line, and C16 on the Chuo Line. The Midosuji Line runs directly to Shin-Osaka Station, Umeda, Shinsaibashi, Namba, and Tennoji. It handles many of the north-south trips visitors make across central Osaka.
The Yotsubashi Line follows a parallel route through western central Osaka. It serves Nishi-Umeda, Yotsubashi, and Namba. The Chuo Line crosses the city from Yumeshima and the waterfront through Honmachi to Tanimachi 4-chome, Morinomiya, and Nagata. Take it for east-west journeys, including trips to the Morinomiya side of Osaka Castle.
Station area
The station extends beneath Midosuji and Chuo-dori, with entrances serving Semba, Hommachi, Nishihommachi, and Utsubohommachi. Choosing the right exit matters because the three line areas and their entrances span several blocks. Check which exit is closest to your hotel, office, or meeting point before leaving the concourse.
Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Osaka Honmachi is scheduled to open on December 18, 2026, in the yui-note honmachi complex, directly connected to Exit 2.
What's nearby
Semba Center Building connects directly with the station around Exits 10, 11, and 16. The kilometer-long complex contains textile wholesalers, retail shops, and basement restaurants. You can stop there for lunch or shopping without going to another district.
West of Midosuji, the streets lead toward Utsubo Park and its rose garden. Kita-Mido is reached from Exit 2, and Namba Shrine is near Exit 13. Honmachi isn't a sightseeing center, but these places give the district more than offices and hotels.
Good to know
Honmachi has no JR or Shinkansen platforms. Take the Midosuji Line to Shin-Osaka for the Shinkansen, Umeda for the JR Osaka Station area, or Namba for Nankai services, including trains toward Kansai Airport.
You may also see the station spelled Hommachi in English. Confirm both the subway line and exit number, especially when meeting someone or carrying luggage, because the three lines occupy different parts of the station complex.
