Overview
Ebisu Station anchors Tokyo-Ebisu / Meguro, where three JR lines meet the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. Its connections suit trips divided among western, central, and southern Tokyo, while Yebisu Garden Place and the neighborhood's dining scene give visitors reasons to stop nearby.
Smaller than Shibuya or Shinjuku, Ebisu is easier to navigate at first glance. The JR and subway sections are separate, however, so check your line and exit before heading to street level.
Lines and connections
The Yamanote Line handles the most familiar cross-city trips. Trains run toward Shibuya and Shinjuku in one direction, and toward Shinagawa and Tokyo in the other. Saikyo and Shonan-Shinjuku Line trains add north-south connections beyond the loop. They serve Ikebukuro to the north and continue through Osaki toward Yokohama and Ofuna.
Ebisu is H02 on the Hibiya Line. Naka-meguro is one stop south, while trains in the opposite direction serve Roppongi, Ginza, Akihabara, and Ueno before continuing toward Kita-senju. For destinations east of the Yamanote corridor, the subway is often the more direct option.
Airport access
Ebisu has no direct airport train. One straightforward route to Haneda Airport takes the Yamanote Line to Hamamatsucho, followed by the Tokyo Monorail.
Reaching Narita Airport requires a transfer. Options include changing at Shibuya or Shinagawa for a Narita Express service, or booking a bus separately from a nearby hotel stop.
Station area
Use the JR East Exit for Yebisu Garden Place. The Yebisu Sky Walk moving walkway begins near this side and provides a covered approach, though the major hotels and venues are still several minutes beyond the station. The Westin Tokyo is a seven-minute walk away.
The West Exit leads toward Ebisu-minami and its dense mix of restaurants and bars. From the subway, Tokyo Metro Exit 1 is the relevant choice for transferring to JR or heading toward Yebisu Garden Place.
Good to know
JR East and Tokyo Metro have separate gates and platforms. Follow signs for the operator you need rather than assuming every entrance reaches every line.
The Yebisu Sky Walk eases the longer approach to Garden Place, but it doesn't place those buildings beside the station. Allow the full published walking time if you're carrying luggage or heading to a timed reservation.
