Overview
The Tokaido Shinkansen and JR Tokaido Main Line bring passengers to Shizuoka Station at the edge of downtown. Hotels and bus stops are close to both exits. The north side leads toward the commercial streets and historic center, while the south side gives quicker access to Shizuoka Science Museum Ru-ku-ru and hotels near the South Exit.
For a one-night rail stop or an early train, staying nearby keeps the schedule simple. The location also works for a trip that combines central Shizuoka with sights reached by bus.
What the area is known for
Meals and errands don't require a detour. Parche and ASTY Shizuoka connect directly to the station, with restaurants, local gifts, and everyday shopping close at hand.
Downtown spreads north from the station. Gofukumachi leads into the central shopping streets, with Aoba Oden Street nearby for a Shizuoka oden dinner.
Main places
Sunpu Castle Park is about a 15-minute walk north of the station. Gofukumachi and the oden alleys around Aoba lie on the same side of town, so they can be combined in one walk from the station.
South of the tracks, Shizuoka Science Museum Ru-ku-ru is a short walk from the South Exit, while Shizutetsu Hotel Prezio Shizuoka Ekinan is about two minutes away. On the north side, Hotel Associa Shizuoka is about a minute from the exit and closer to the downtown route.
Stations and access
Buses from the station run to places such as Nihondaira and the Toro Ruins. This keeps those sights manageable without a car or another train.
There isn't a direct airport train. Reaching Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport involves either a bus or a rail-and-bus transfer, and checking the current timetable is particularly important for an early flight.
Where it fits in a trip
Train timing is the main reason to stay here. Central sightseeing remains close enough to do on foot, and buses put Nihondaira and the Toro Ruins within day-trip range.
Miho no Matsubara and Shimizu Port are not station-area walks. Reaching the coast requires local rail, bus, or road travel, so allow enough time for the connections.
