Overview
From the JR West Exit of Ryogoku Station, it's about a one-minute walk to Ryogoku View Hotel. Kokugikan, Tokyo's main sumo arena, is nearby. Rooms range from compact layouts for solo guests and couples to larger options for groups, so it's worth comparing the sleeping arrangements before reserving.
Rooms
Every room has a balcony. Compact Twins measure 14.6 to 15.3 square metres, while Standard Twins are 18.1 square metres. Superior Twin rooms accommodate three guests with a sofa bed and provide 20.7 to 21.3 square metres.
The 11th-floor Modern Japanese rooms measure 41 to 46 square metres and sleep up to five using beds, a sofa bed, and futons. The 68.2-square-metre Premium version accommodates up to six with two beds and futons. Both categories have whirlpool baths and separate shower booths. At full occupancy, some guests sleep on futons or the sofa bed.
Facilities
Staff are available around the clock, and reception can store luggage before check-in and after checkout. This leaves you free to explore the neighborhood on arrival or departure day.
There's no laundry service, though staff can direct guests to a nearby coin laundry. The hotel also has no parking or discounted arrangement with nearby car parks.
Dining
A Japanese and Western breakfast buffet is served on the second floor from 7am to 10am and is available only to overnight guests. Chanko hotpot, associated with sumo wrestlers, is served alongside dishes such as grilled fish and eggs. Check whether breakfast is included in your reservation.
Location and transport
JR Chuo-Sobu local trains run directly to Akihabara and Shinjuku. To reach Tokyo Station and the Shinkansen, change at Akihabara to the Yamanote or Keihin-Tohoku Line.
Ryogoku Station on the Toei Oedo Line is separate from the JR station and about seven minutes away on foot. The one-minute walk applies specifically to the JR West Exit, so check which line your route uses before setting out with bags.
Airport access
From Haneda, take a Keikyu train continuing onto the Toei Asakusa Line to Asakusabashi, then change to a JR Chuo-Sobu local train for the one-stop ride to Ryogoku. Check the train's destination before boarding.
From Narita, take a JR Sobu Rapid service to Kinshicho, then change to a westbound Chuo-Sobu local train for one stop to Ryogoku. Both airport routes require a transfer.
Why stay here
The short walk from JR is helpful when arriving with luggage or returning between sightseeing trips. Larger Japanese-style rooms allow groups to stay together, provided everyone is comfortable with a mix of beds and futons.
In Tokyo-Ryogoku, you can combine an event at Kokugikan with a meal at Edo Noren, where Japanese restaurants surround a sumo ring beside the station. For a quieter break, walk around the pond at nearby Former Yasuda Garden.
Good to know
Check-in starts at 3pm and checkout is at 11am, unless your reservation specifies otherwise. Cots and bed guards aren't available, so families with young children should make sure the chosen sleeping arrangement meets their needs.
