Overview
APA Hotel & Resort Ryogoku Ekimae Tower is located near the Kokugikan sumo arena and Former Yasuda Garden in Tokyo-Ryogoku. JR trains and the Oedo subway line are a few minutes away on foot, so you can combine local museum visits with sightseeing elsewhere in Tokyo.
Rooms
Single and Double rooms both measure 11 square metres and have one 140cm-wide bed. The Double accommodates two people without adding floor space, so consider a Twin if you'd prefer separate beds. Standard Twins measure 15 square metres, while the 20-square-metre Triple has three beds. Single and Double rooms have luggage storage beneath the bed.
All rooms are non-smoking. Views vary, and some Casual Twins are sold as no-view rooms. If an upper floor matters, book a high-floor or Sky Floor plan rather than relying on a request at check-in.
Facilities
The basement public baths have indoor and open-air pools and are free for overnight guests. The baths use mineral-treated water, not water from a natural hot spring. Opening hours are 6am to 10am and 3pm to 2am; take your room key and towels with you.
Swimming in the 31st-floor outdoor pool costs extra and is limited to the summer season. Timed sessions can be reserved at reception after check-in, while poolside access is free. For everyday needs, there's a coin laundry in the basement and a 24-hour Lawson convenience store on the second floor.
Dining
La Veranda on the fourth floor serves a Japanese and Western breakfast buffet from 6:30am to 9:45am, followed by lunch and dinner service. At the 31st-floor teppanyaki restaurant, chefs cook in front of diners, and the dining room has views toward the Sumida River.
Location and transport
JR Ryogoku Station's West Exit is three minutes away on foot. Chuo-Sobu local trains run directly to Akihabara and Shinjuku. For Tokyo Station and the Shinkansen, change at Akihabara.
The Toei Oedo Line's A3 exit is a four-minute walk away, with direct trains to Roppongi. The JR and subway entrances are separate, so check which line you need before leaving the hotel.
Airport access
From Haneda, take a Keikyu train that continues onto the Toei Asakusa Line to Asakusabashi, then change to a JR local train for the one-stop journey to Ryogoku. From Narita, some Keisei Access Express trains also continue to Asakusabashi, where the same JR transfer is required.
Check the train's destination because other services require an additional change. Neither route provides a direct airport train to Ryogoku.
Why stay here
Kokugikan is close enough to walk back after an event, and the public baths stay open until 2am. For two people sharing, compare the extra floor space and separate beds in a twin with the smaller double.
You can explore the neighborhood without taking a train. Walk around the pond at Former Yasuda Garden, explore Tokyo's history at the Edo-Tokyo Museum, then try chanko hotpot at a restaurant near the arena.
Good to know
Check-in starts at 3pm and checkout is at 10am. Tattoos must be fully covered by the hotel's permitted cover stickers to use the public baths; ask reception about the available size and number.
Room windows don't open, and heating or cooling mode is set for the entire building. You can't switch between the two in your room.
