Overview
At the eastern end of Kokusai Street, Makishi Station is a convenient Yui Rail stop for Naha-Kokusai Dori, the nearby market streets, Tsuboya pottery district, and Sakurazaka. It is numbered 09 on the monorail.
Direct airport trains and a central Naha location are the main advantages here. Makishi doesn't serve JR or intercity rail, and trips beyond the monorail corridor often require a bus, taxi, or rental car.
Lines and connections
The Okinawa Urban Monorail, commonly called Yui Rail, is Makishi's only train line. Miebashi is the next stop toward Naha Airport, while Asato is the next stop toward Shuri and Tedako-Uranishi.
Westbound trains cross central Naha before reaching the airport. Eastbound services continue to Omoromachi, Shuri, and Urasoe. Naha has no JR network, so this single elevated line handles most journeys within the city that can be made by rail.
Airport access
Yui Rail runs directly from Makishi to Naha Airport in 16 minutes, covering a published distance of 7.7 kilometres. No transfer is required.
That direct ride helps on arrival and departure days, although the complete journey still includes an outdoor walk between the station and your hotel or other destination. If you're carrying substantial luggage, allow extra time for that final section.
Station area
Shops and restaurants begin near the station at the eastern end of Kokusai Street. The market arcades and pottery district extend south and west through the surrounding blocks.
Hyatt Regency Naha, Okinawa is about eight minutes away in Sakurazaka. Reaching it requires a street-level walk rather than a covered or direct station connection.
What's nearby
Kokusai Street runs west through central Naha, lined with restaurants, souvenir shops, cafes, and bars. Farther along the market streets, First Makishi Public Market is a convenient stop for local produce, seafood, and prepared food.
A short walk south leads to Tsuboya Yachimun Street. Its limestone-paved road, pottery workshops, shops, cafes, and the Naha Municipal Tsuboya Pottery Museum offer a quieter cultural detour from Kokusai Street.
Good to know
Makishi is a monorail stop, not a regional rail hub. Take the up line for Naha Airport or the down line for Shuri and Tedako-Uranishi. Many beaches, resorts, and sights elsewhere on Okinawa Island still require a bus, taxi, or rental car.
Part of Kokusai Street becomes pedestrian-only from noon to 6:00 PM on Sundays. Yui Rail continues to operate, but taxi and car approaches around the street may change during those hours.
