Overview
At the junction of Aioi-dori and Chuo-dori, Hatchobori Station serves the department stores and dining streets of Hiroshima-Hatchobori. It's a street-level Hiroden tram stop. After arriving by Shinkansen at Hiroshima Station, visitors can continue here by tram and walk the final stretch to a downtown hotel or restaurant.
Lines and connections
Routes 1, 2, and 6 run directly between Hatchobori and Hiroshima Station. In the other direction, route 1 heads toward Hiroshima Port, while routes 2 and 6 travel west through Kamiyacho and past the Atomic Bomb Dome.
For Miyajima, board a route 2 tram displaying Hiroden-miyajima-guchi as its destination. From the end of the line, walk to the ferry terminal for the crossing to the island. The tram journey ends on the mainland, so allow time for the ferry too.
Trams marked L operate on the Loop Line, connecting downtown stops with the Hijiyama area. The loop doesn't call at Hiroshima Station. When returning to the JR trains, check for Hiroshima Station on the destination display.
Airport access
For Hiroshima Airport, use Hiroshima Bus Center in the Hiroshima-Kamiyacho district. Take a westbound route 2 or 6 tram from Hatchobori to Kamiya-cho-nishi. The bus center is about a three-minute walk away, on the third floor of the Sogo department store building.
Airport limousine buses take about an hour, although traffic can lengthen the journey. Allow extra time before a flight. You can catch the airport bus downtown without returning to Hiroshima Station.
Station area
Fukuya's Hatchobori flagship department store and Hiroshima PARCO are close to the stop, with shopping streets continuing toward Hondori. Nearby Nagarekawa has restaurants and bars for an evening out after sightseeing.
Okonomimura, known for its Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurants, is about a three-minute walk from the tram stop. Mercure Tokyu Stay Hiroshima is about two minutes away on foot.
What's nearby
For the Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park, take a westbound route 2 or 6 tram until Genbaku Dome-mae. The Dome is about a minute away on foot, and you can continue walking into the park.
For Shukkeien Garden, take route 9 toward Hakushima and get off at Shukkeien-mae, about a two-minute walk from the entrance. Paths circle a central pond dotted with islands, with bridges and pavilions along the way.
Good to know
Suica and ICOCA are accepted on Hiroden trams. Tap your card when boarding and again when getting off. Top it up beforehand, as you can't add money to these cards on board.
For a child's fare, speak to the crew before tapping to get off. Child fares aren't applied automatically, even when using a child's IC card.
