What this station is useful for

Overview

For subway trips to Shinsekai, Dobutsuen-mae is the key stop. The Midosuji and Sakaisuji lines meet here near Janjan Yokocho, Spa World, and the southern side of Osaka-Shinsekai.

JR and Nankai passengers use nearby Shin-Imamiya Station instead. The stations aren't interchangeable: their gates and platforms are separate, although both serve the same broad neighborhood.

Lines and connections

The Midosuji Line is the simplest route for many visitors. Northbound trains run directly through Namba and Shinsaibashi before continuing to Umeda and Shin-Osaka Station. In the opposite direction, Tennoji Station is one stop away, with trains continuing farther south.

The Sakaisuji Line takes a different north-south path through Nippombashi, Nagahoribashi, Sakaisuji-Hommachi, and Kitahama. Some trains continue beyond Tenjimbashisuji 6-chome onto the Hankyu network, so check the departure display when planning a longer journey.

Shin-Imamiya-Ekimae on the Hankai tram line and the JR-Nankai interchange are both close to the subway exits. There is no single shared ticket gate between these operators.

Station area

Exit choice changes the final walk. Shinsekai is about three minutes from the station, with Janjan Yokocho and Spa World on the east side of the rail corridor. OMO7 Osaka is about five minutes from Exit 6, under the elevated tracks toward the Shin-Imamiya side.

The surroundings change quickly. Tsutenkaku and its restaurants draw visitors eastward, while Shin-Imamiya's hotels and airport trains are to the west.

What's nearby

Janjan Yokocho is the closest route into Shinsekai's kushikatsu and arcade streets, with Tsutenkaku farther north in the same district. Tennoji Zoo and Tennoji Park are east of the station, while Spa World is near the exits between the zoo and Shinsekai sides.

Good to know

The station name means "in front of the zoo," but Dobutsuen-mae also serves as an interchange for Shinsekai and nearby hotels. Take the Midosuji Line for direct trips toward Namba, Umeda, and Shin-Osaka. For JR trains or direct Nankai airport services, use Shin-Imamiya instead.
