Overview
Obihiro Station Area is the simplest place to stay when a Tokachi trip begins by train, airport bus, or a late arrival in central Obihiro. Hotels, the bus terminal, taxis, restaurants, and everyday services are all close at hand, which makes the area easy to manage even on a short stop.
This is a convenience-focused part of the city rather than a place for wide-open Tokachi scenery. It works best when you want food and transport in central Obihiro first, then plan separate trips to the racecourse, hot springs, gardens, countryside, or airport.
What the area is known for
The area is especially strong for logistics and food. Obihiro's butadon restaurants are a memorable part of the downtown experience, and several long-established specialists are clustered near the station.
For visitors without a car, this is also the easiest part of the city to understand on arrival. You can check in, have dinner, and sort out the next day's bus, taxi, rental-car, or rail plans without starting from the rural edge of Tokachi.
Stations and access
Obihiro Station is served by the JR Nemuro Main Line and is the city's main rail point for travel toward Sapporo, Kushiro, and the rest of eastern Hokkaido.
Tokachi-Obihiro Airport is reached by bus or car rather than by train. Airport buses connect the airport with Obihiro Station Bus Terminal in about 38 minutes, while the Toyoko Inn access route takes about 40 minutes by bus from the airport.
Where it fits in a trip
Choose the station area for first nights, last nights, short stays, airport-bus timing, and food-focused evenings in central Obihiro. If your trip is mainly about Tokachi's open landscapes, hot springs, farms, or gardens, use this area as your starting point and plan onward transport carefully.
