Overview
Built on an island off Tokoname, Chubu Centrair International Airport is a major air gateway for central Japan. Access Plaza links the main airport district with Central Japan International Airport Station, hotels, bus and taxi stands, ferry services, and routes to the two passenger terminals.
Staying on the island is worthwhile when flight times or an event at Aichi Sky Expo take priority over central Nagoya. There's also plenty to fill the hours before departure, from local food and shopping to viewing areas and aviation attractions beyond the departure halls.
What the area is known for
Terminal 1 is the main passenger building and connects directly to Access Plaza. Its public areas contain regional dining and souvenir shops, while the Sky Deck offers close-range views of aircraft.
On the way to Terminal 2, Flight of Dreams is built around the first Boeing 787 test aircraft. Aviation displays share the public area with family-oriented play and learning spaces. Aichi Sky Expo, an international exhibition center, is also within walking distance of the airport terminals.
Main places
Terminal 1, Access Plaza, the railway station, and the nearest airport hotels form the most compact cluster. Centrair Hotel is connected on the same level, 100 metres from the station gates and 130 metres from the airline check-in area.
Terminal 2 is separate. A covered pedestrian route with moving walkways and a free airport shuttle connect it with the main terminal area. Flight of Dreams lies between the two terminals, while Aichi Sky Expo is a short walk from the airport.
Stations and access
Central Japan International Airport Station connects directly to Access Plaza, with a step-free route into Terminal 1. Meitetsu's fastest μ-SKY trains reach Meitetsu Nagoya in as little as 28 minutes. Passengers need both a regular fare ticket and a μticket.
Buses, taxis, car parks, and high-speed ferry services are grouped around the airport complex. If you're using Terminal 2, allow extra time after arriving by train because it isn't in the same building as Access Plaza.
Where it fits in a trip
An early flight, late arrival, exhibition at Aichi Sky Expo, or short stop with direct rail access can justify staying on the airport island. A final afternoon can be spent over a meal, on the Sky Deck, or inside Flight of Dreams.
Central Nagoya is a better match for nightlife, city dining, and several days of urban sightseeing. Stay in central Tokoname instead when the Pottery Footpath and the ceramics town are the main reasons for visiting.

The airport is marketed as Nagoya's international gateway, but it's located in Tokoname. Check your departure terminal before setting out: Terminal 1 connects directly to Access Plaza, while Terminal 2 requires a separate walk or shuttle ride.
