Overview
Every guest room at BEB5 Mojiko by Hoshino Resorts faces the Kanmon Strait, with Mojiko Station four minutes away on foot. The hotel is inside Mojiko Retro, close to the historic waterfront, Kyushu Railway History Museum, and ferry pier.
Opened on July 24, 2026, it marked Hoshino Resorts' debut in Fukuoka Prefecture. The hotel is designed for groups wanting more shared space and flexibility than a conventional station stay, with a 24-hour lounge, rooftop terrace, public bath, and dining overlooking the strait.
Rooms
The hotel has 119 non-smoking rooms for one to four guests. All face the water, with window-side daybeds or round sofas positioned for watching ships and the changing light. Deep blue interiors and Kokura-ori textiles connect the rooms to the wider Kitakyushu setting without distracting from the view.
The Strait View Sauna Room with Terrace is the standout category. It has a private dry sauna with self-löyly, a cold plunge bath, and outdoor loungers on the terrace. Compare this room when the sauna experience matters as much as sightseeing and proximity to the station.
Facilities
TAMARIBA is a shared lounge with a cafe and shop, open 24 hours. Guests may bring in food and drinks, giving groups somewhere to gather without retreating to separate rooms. The lounge extends to MIZUBA, a rooftop terrace overlooking passing ships, Shimonoseki, and the Kanmon Bridge.
A semi-open-air public bath on the top floor also faces the strait. It is a large communal bath, not a natural hot spring. Paid parking covers 25 on-site spaces and another 200 at the nearby Kanmon Kaikyo Museum through the hotel's parking arrangement.
Dining
The restaurant serves breakfast and dinner buffets. Its Noodle Bar lets guests combine different noodles, soups, and toppings, drawing on Mojiko's history as an international trading port. Dinner also features steak from the live kitchen, while breakfast includes freshly baked banana French toast alongside lighter rice and noodle choices.
Dinner runs from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and requires a reservation after the stay is booked. Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM without a reservation. For a casual drink or snack, the cafe remains open from 2:00 PM until midnight.
Location and transport
Mojiko Station is the nearest rail connection, four minutes away on foot. Local JR trains reach Kokura in about 15 minutes. From Hakata, the hotel's published route uses the Shinkansen to Kokura followed by a local JR train to Mojiko, for a total journey of about 40 minutes.
The historic station building, former shipping offices, railway museum, observation room, and Blue Wing Moji are all part of the surrounding district. The Kanmon Ferry makes the short crossing to Karato in Shimonoseki, adding an easy trip across the strait without returning through Kokura.
Airport access
Kitakyushu Airport is the nearer airport. The hotel estimates a journey of 48 minutes by train and bus or 38 minutes by car, but it doesn't operate a shuttle. Public transport requires a connection between airport bus and JR services.
From Fukuoka Airport, the route uses the subway to Hakata, the Shinkansen to Kokura, and a local train to Mojiko. It's straightforward on a map but involves two changes, so allow extra time when traveling with luggage.
Why stay here
The four-minute walk from the station keeps arrival simple, while the strait-facing rooms, rooftop spaces, and public bath give guests reasons to spend time at the hotel. The tradeoff is clear: Shinkansen and most airport connections still run through Kokura.
An overnight stay reveals a different side of Mojiko. The waterfront buildings are illuminated after dark, the observation room remains open into the evening, and the ferry makes Karato an easy extension across the strait. You'll also have a chance to explore before the main daytime crowds arrive.
