Overview
Wakayama Station is the main JR-side rail hub for Wakayama City and the anchor of the Wakayama Station Area. It is the station most useful for travelers arriving from Shin-Osaka, Tennoji, Osaka, Kyoto, Kansai International Airport connections, or the Kii Peninsula coast.
Lines And Platforms
JR services at Wakayama Station include the Hanwa Line toward Otori, Tennoji, Osaka, Shin-Osaka, and Kyoto, the Kinokuni Line toward Gobo, Shirahama, and Shingu, the Wakayama Line toward Kokawa and Hashimoto, and Kisei Main Line services toward Kiwa and Wakayamashi. The station also connects with the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line, which departs from platform 9.
Visitor Use
For hotel stays, the station area is especially convenient because Hotel Granvia Wakayama is about a two-minute walk from the Central Exit. The station also supports local sightseeing patterns: buses toward Wakayama Castle, the Kishigawa Line toward Kishi Station, and rail routes for wider Wakayama Prefecture travel.
