Overview
At Nippori Station, you can change from Narita Airport's Skyliner to the JR Yamanote Line for travel around Tokyo. Hotels nearby let you finish your airport journey here instead of continuing by train. Outside the station, Nippori Fabric Town is to the east and Yanaka is to the west.
Keisei and JR have separate gates and platforms. Follow the JR transfer signs if you're continuing by train, or the exit signs if you're heading into the neighborhood.
Lines and connections
The Yamanote Line runs directly to Ueno, Tokyo, Ikebukuro, and Shinjuku, so it handles many of the most common sightseeing journeys from Nippori. JR's Keihin-Tohoku and Joban lines also stop here, with Joban rapid trains heading toward Kita-Senju and Matsudo.
Keisei services use their own part of the station. The elevated Nippori-Toneri Liner begins here and runs north through Arakawa and Adachi to Minumadai-shinsuikoen. It isn't an airport service.
Airport access
The Keisei Skyliner runs directly to Narita Airport's rail stations for Terminal 1 and Terminals 2 and 3. All seats are reserved, so buy the required Skyliner ticket before boarding. If you're transferring from JR, allow time to reach the Keisei platforms.
For Haneda Airport, take the Yamanote Line to Hamamatsucho and change to the Tokyo Monorail. There is no direct Haneda train from Nippori.
Station area
Tokyo-Nippori has fabric shops east of the tracks and access to Yanaka on the west. Check which side matches your destination before leaving the gates.
ART HOTEL Nippori Lungwood is about one minute on foot from JR's South Exit. That walking time begins at the exit, not on a Skyliner or JR platform.
What's nearby
Nippori Fabric Town is a specialist shopping area for cloth, buttons, and sewing supplies, with individual stores serving retail shoppers as well as trade buyers. West of the railway, Yanaka Ginza has food shops, groceries, and sweets. They are separate shopping districts on opposite sides of the station.
Good to know
For step-free access from the JR platforms, use the North Gate. An elevator connects this route with the east-side station square. A hotel's shortest advertised walk may use another exit, so check the route before arriving with a wheelchair, stroller, or heavy luggage.
