Overview
Gion Station is a Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line station in the Fukuoka-Hakata area. It serves the Hakata Old Town side of central Fukuoka, close to temples, Kushida Shrine, Canal City Hakata, and hotels near Hakata Station that are not directly in the station complex.
Lines and connections
The station is served by the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line as K10. On the route map, it is between Hakata Station and Nakasu-Kawabata Station, making it useful for quick subway trips between airport access, Hakata rail services, and the Tenjin side of the city.
Station area
The area around Gion Station has more of an old-town, neighborhood feel than the main Hakata Station frontage. It is practical for travelers staying near Reisen-machi, Gion-machi, Kushida Shrine, Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, or Canal City Hakata, especially when their hotel is closer to Gion Station than to the main Hakata Station exits.
Good to know
Gion Station is not the Shinkansen station. Travelers arriving by Shinkansen usually compare walking from Hakata Station with taking the Airport Line one stop to Gion, depending on luggage, weather, and the location of the hotel entrance.
