Overview
Yumoto Fujiya Hotel is about three minutes on foot from Hakone-Yumoto Station. The walk crosses a bridge, with an external elevator for the final approach to the hotel. You can arrive by train and settle in for a hot-spring stay without an onward bus or taxi.
Rooms
Main-building twins measure 23 square meters and sleep two. For families, renovated Japanese-Western rooms provide 48 square meters with twin beds and a tatami area, accommodating up to six guests in one room. Japanese-style rooms in the Rainbow Plaza wing have futon beds for up to six guests.
For a hot-spring bath in your own room, book a Superior Twin Room with Hot Spring. These 48-square-meter rooms accommodate two guests; an in-room hot-spring bath isn't standard across other categories. All guest rooms are non-smoking.
Facilities
The communal hot-spring baths have separate men's and women's areas, with indoor and outdoor bathing and a sauna. Four private baths can be reserved for 45-minute sessions at an extra charge. They're an alternative to booking a room with its own hot-spring bath, but availability should be checked in advance or at check-in.
Self-service luggage storage is available to overnight guests on arrival and departure days, so you can leave your bags before heading farther into Hakone. Paid laundry facilities help on longer trips, and parking is free for hotel guests.
Dining
Himeshara serves a breakfast buffet and seasonal kaiseki, a Japanese multi-course dinner. French and Chinese restaurants provide alternatives in the evening, while Wisteria lounge offers lighter lunches and sweets during the day. There's also a bar for after-dinner drinks. Check which meals are included in your room rate before booking.
Location and transport
Direct Odakyu Romancecar trains connect Shinjuku with Hakone-Yumoto Station. Travelers arriving by Tokaido Shinkansen can change at Odawara Station for the local train to Hakone-Yumoto Station, followed by the short walk to the hotel.
For sightseeing, the Hakone Tozan Railway climbs toward Gora, while buses run toward Moto-Hakone on Lake Ashi. The nearby station gives you a choice of routes, but the lake and mountain attractions still require onward travel. Allow time for those journeys during a short stay.
Airport access
One route from Haneda Airport takes the Keikyu Line to Shinagawa, the Tokaido Shinkansen to Odawara, and a local train to Hakone-Yumoto Station. From Narita Airport, take the Narita Express to Tokyo, transfer to the Shinkansen for Odawara, and continue by local train. Both journeys require two changes before the final walk.
Why stay here
For a one- or two-night visit, the short walk from the train leaves more time for bathing and sightseeing. Room options range from twins for couples to Japanese-Western and Japanese-style layouts that can accommodate families sharing.
In Hakone-Yumoto, the streets around the station have cafes and sweet shops to explore before heading into the mountains. Try onsen manju, small sweets filled with red bean paste, or browse the shops for local gifts.
Good to know
Plan your arrival around dinner if you've booked an evening meal. The main restaurants require dinner guests to arrive by 8pm; later arrivals have their dinner cancelled without a refund.
