Overview
Umekoji Potel KYOTO is located beside Kyoto Aquarium and Umekoji Park in the Kyoto-Umekoji area. The hotel is about five minutes on foot from Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station and about 20 minutes on foot from Kyoto Station, making it a park-side Kyoto base rather than a hotel directly inside the station cluster.
Rooms
The hotel has 144 rooms across double, twin, barrier-free twin, Aeru, Potel, and universal room categories. Room sizes range from compact concept rooms around 17 square meters to 36.3-square-meter Garden Corner Twin rooms. Many rooms are double or twin layouts, with selected park-facing, wood-style, craft-themed, and barrier-free options.
Facilities
Facilities include a public bath, Umekoji Fermentation Factory, rooftop terrace, laundry, shared activity spaces, free Wi-Fi, and parking. The rooftop terrace looks toward Kyoto Tower, Toji Temple, the Shinkansen, and other trains, while the public bath and fermentation space make the hotel more experience-led than a simple station-area stay.
Dining
The first-floor restaurant serves breakfast, weekend-and-holiday lunch, and dinner. Breakfast includes both Western dishes and Kyoto-style home cooking, while dinner includes a Wagyu steak course and a la carte options. Cafe Polum serves coffee, tea, seasonal tarts, hot sandwiches, and light food with views toward Umekoji Park.
Location and transport
Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station on the JR Sagano Line is the nearest rail stop, about five minutes away on foot. Kyoto Station is about 20 minutes away on foot, and city bus routes from Kyoto Station stop near Kyoto Aquarium before a short walk to the hotel. The location is especially useful for Kyoto Aquarium, Umekoji Park, Kyoto Railway Museum, and travelers who want easier access to the Sagano Line than a downtown Kyoto base provides.
Airport access
Kansai International Airport access works by JR Haruka to Kyoto Station, followed by rail, bus, taxi, or a longer walk toward Umekoji. Osaka Itami Airport access works by airport limousine bus to Kyoto Station, then onward to the hotel area.
Why stay here
Choose Umekoji Potel KYOTO when the priority is a calmer park-side Kyoto stay with family-friendly attractions nearby, a public bath, cafe and restaurant options, and quick JR access back to Kyoto Station. Choose an immediate Kyoto Station Area hotel instead when Shinkansen timing, large luggage, or airport-transfer simplicity matters more than the Umekoji setting.
Good to know
With large luggage or bad weather, use a more direct street route instead of cutting through the park. Some room categories are shower-only, and the Potel Room uses the public bath rather than an in-room bathing facility.
