Overview
Sunshine City Prince Hotel connects directly to Sunshine City. The aquarium and observation deck are close to the room, along with the complex's shops, restaurants, and indoor attractions. East-side Ikebukuro's shops and cinemas are nearby too.
The Higashi-Ikebukuro subway stop is three minutes away, while Exit 35 of Ikebukuro Station is about eight minutes on foot. The nearer stop serves the Yurakucho Line. Ikebukuro is the larger hub, with JR, Tokyo Metro, Tobu, and Seibu trains.
Rooms
Room choice matters here. Compact semi-double and twin rooms begin at 16.6 square metres, while larger layouts reach 75 square metres. Japanese-style and Japanese-Western rooms can accommodate up to six guests.
Panorama rooms occupy the 33rd to 37th floors and focus on upper-floor views. IKEPRI 25 is a concept floor for changing anime and manga collaborations, so check the featured title rather than assuming a particular theme will still be running.
Facilities
A 24-hour FamilyMart and guest coin laundry cover everyday needs inside the hotel. Self check-in and check-out machines are available in the lobby. For exercise, there's a reservation-only stretching room with yoga mats and balance balls.
The permanent Muslim prayer room provides prayer rugs and facilities for washing hands and feet.
Dining
Bayern serves a daily breakfast buffet and also opens for lunch and dinner buffets. Other choices range from Japanese and Chinese meals to cafe dining and a collaboration restaurant whose featured title changes over time.
Location and transport
Higashi-Ikebukuro is the nearest station. Exits 6 and 7 connect to Sunshine City through a weather-protected underground passage, which helps when you're carrying luggage or arriving in the rain. Ikebukuro Station provides far more routes, but the hotel's eight-minute estimate starts at Exit 35, not at the train platform.
Use Ikebukuro for Yamanote Line trips toward Shinjuku and Shibuya, as well as Tobu and Seibu services beyond central Tokyo. Higashi-Ikebukuro is simpler when the Yurakucho Line matches your route.
Airport access
Limousine buses for Haneda and Narita airports stop at the hotel's main entrance. Allow about 60 to 70 minutes for Haneda and 90 to 120 minutes for Narita, though road traffic can alter those times. Check reservations and the current timetable before traveling.
If the bus schedule doesn't work, traveling by rail requires a walk to the station and at least one onward connection.
Why stay here
A Sunshine City visit can begin without another train ride. The airport bus at the main entrance also avoids an extra walk with luggage. The tradeoff is the longer approach to Ikebukuro's JR and private railway platforms.
Sunshine City can fill a day, with the aquarium and observation deck joined by character shopping, a planetarium, and other indoor entertainment. Beyond the complex, east-side Ikebukuro adds more anime shops and cinemas.
Good to know
Direct access to Sunshine City isn't the same as a station connection. Higashi-Ikebukuro is the closest subway stop, while reaching Ikebukuro's broader rail network requires the longer walk to and from Exit 35.
