Overview
On the northern side of the Nagoya Station Area, Richmond Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi is within walking distance of the city's main rail links. The Shinkansen gates at Nagoya Station are about seven minutes away, though redevelopment around the Taiko-dori side can extend the walk to ten minutes. Kamejima Station is closer at about five minutes on foot.
The hotel isn't connected to Nagoya Station. Instead, it provides access to the Tokaido Shinkansen and Nagoya's wider rail network without placing guests inside the main station complex. Kamejima Station also offers a second approach to central Nagoya on the Higashiyama Line.
Rooms
All 150 rooms are non-smoking. Singles and doubles measure 17.3 square meters and have one 150-centimeter bed, so they're best suited to solo travelers or couples who expect to spend most of the day out.
Twin and triple rooms measure 23.6 square meters. They have two single beds, with an extra bed added for a third guest, and separate the bath from the toilet. The universal twin has no internal steps and places controls at a more accessible height. Baby cots and bed guards can be requested for these larger room types, subject to availability.
Facilities
Free luggage storage before check-in and after checkout eases the pressure on arrival and departure days. Self-service check-in and checkout machines assist at the front desk, while water dispensers on guest floors reduce the need for bottled water. Coin laundry and a microwave are helpful during longer visits.
The mechanical partner car park beside the hotel operates on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot accommodate many taller or larger vehicles. Entry and exit are also unavailable overnight, so drivers should check the restrictions before relying on it.
Dining
Breakfast is served in the first-floor restaurant from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM. Refurbished in 2026, the buffet has an open kitchen preparing tenmusu rice balls and eel rice that guests can finish with broth and condiments in the style of hitsumabushi. Miso cutlets, chicken wings, and ogura toast give the meal a distinctly Nagoya character.
After breakfast, the restaurant becomes a guest lounge from early afternoon until 9:00 PM. Complimentary soft drinks and tables provide space to pause, talk, or work outside the room. The hotel doesn't serve lunch or dinner, but the station district has extensive dining in its towers and underground malls.
Location and transport
For the Shinkansen, leave Nagoya Station through the Taiko-dori Exit and follow the railway north. The construction detour means the full walk can take seven to ten minutes, particularly with luggage. Kamejima Station's Exit 3 is about five minutes away and provides a convenient Higashiyama Line alternative for journeys across central Nagoya.
Nagoya's other rail operators use gates on different sides of the station complex. Meitetsu Nagoya is about nine minutes away for airport trains, while Kintetsu Nagoya is about ten minutes away for private-rail journeys toward Mie and Kansai. Allow time to find the correct operator because the gates aren't shared.
Airport access
Central Japan International Airport is reached through Meitetsu Nagoya rather than by hotel shuttle. The fastest Mu-Sky trains complete the rail journey in about 28 minutes, while the hotel estimates roughly 40 minutes for the overall trip between the hotel and Centrair.
Once you're on the train, the route is direct. The extra effort is reaching the Meitetsu gates, so allow more time if you're carrying large bags or traveling during the station-area redevelopment work.
Why stay here
A short walk to the Shinkansen gates and breakfast from 6:30 AM help with early departures. Luggage storage and the afternoon lounge add flexibility around check-in and checkout, while the twin and triple rooms give two or three guests more space than a compact double. The tradeoff is the outdoor walk to the station.
Noritake Garden is also convenient from this side of Nagoya, about five minutes from Kamejima Station's Exit 2. Its museum and working craft center explain how Noritake ceramics are made, and visitors can try a painting workshop themselves. Green space and on-site dining make it easy to turn that into a half-day outing without crossing central Nagoya.
Good to know
Redevelopment around Nagoya Station's Taiko-dori side has created a detour, so don't plan around the shortest seven-minute estimate alone. Follow the signed route north along the railway and allow closer to ten minutes when carrying luggage.
Drivers should note the neighboring car park's strict size limits and overnight closure. There is no entry or exit between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM, so larger vehicles and late arrivals will need another nearby lot.
