Overview
Portom International Hokkaido shares a building with New Chitose Airport's International Terminal, keeping international check-in and arrivals close. New Chitose Airport Station is about ten minutes away along the indoor connecting path, while the Domestic Terminal arrival lobby is roughly twelve minutes away. That distance matters when you're carrying luggage.
The hotel has enough for a full evening. Rooms start at 43 square metres, the onsen stays open overnight, and the restaurants and art spaces reduce the need to return to the airport concourses.
Rooms
All 171 rooms are non-smoking, and each displays a different selection of images from Hokusai Manga. Superior Rooms start at 43 square metres. Junior Suites measure 63 square metres and come in twin, double, and accessible twin layouts.
The signature suites differ much more in style and scale, ranging from the 63-square-metre Portom Suite to the 250-square-metre Sukiya Suite. Most guests will be choosing between a Superior Room and a Junior Suite, both with enough space for open luggage and time indoors before or after a flight.
Facilities
The onsen is reserved for hotel guests and remains open from 15:00 until 10:00 the following morning. Its sauna closes overnight from midnight to 6:00. A guest-only gym is also on the fourth floor, while the paid spa requires a separate reservation.
Art extends beyond the rooms. Staying guests can use the salon and gallery around the clock, and the fourth-floor tea ceremony house holds advance-booked sessions on selected days. These spaces offer a quieter alternative to returning immediately to the airport concourses.
Dining
The French restaurant Tateru Yoshino serves breakfast from 6:00 to 11:00 and reopens for dinner. Shimogamo Saryo Kita no Hanare serves Japanese lunches and dinners centered on Hokkaido ingredients. Dinner at either restaurant must be reserved by 18:00 the previous day; the French restaurant closes on Wednesdays and Thursdays, while the Japanese restaurant closes on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Cafe Sky Library remains open until 21:00, while The Bar and The Cigar Bar serve drinks later. Check the schedule before depending on a particular venue, especially for dinner from Monday through Thursday.
Location and transport
Reception is on the fourth floor of the International Terminal, with dedicated hotel entrances on the first three floors. From the JR station, follow the connecting path across the airport, pass the convenience store on the International Terminal side, and continue to the hotel's dedicated elevator.
The entire route is indoors, but this isn't a station-front arrival. Airport luggage carts can help along the way, and the hotel entrance has a step-free route.
Airport access
International arrivals and departures are in the same building as the hotel. From the Domestic Terminal's first-floor arrivals area, the indoor route covers about 960 metres.
JR Airport trains run directly to Sapporo, with the fastest service taking 33 minutes. Some continue to Otaru, while journeys to other Hokkaido destinations generally require a transfer at Minami-Chitose or Sapporo.
Why stay here
Sharing a building with the international check-in hall simplifies an early departure or late arrival. Large rooms, overnight onsen hours, art, and two formal restaurants are especially valuable when you have several hours before bed.
New Chitose Airport can fill a longer gap with Hokkaido food, souvenir shopping, and entertainment, although many of those options are on the Domestic Terminal side or in the connecting area. A Sapporo-centered itinerary is different: stay in the city for the main visit, then move to Portom only if the first or final flight makes an airport night worthwhile.
