Overview
Three rail approaches shape a stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel Ueno. Tokyo Metro and JR entrances are within two minutes, while Keisei Ueno is six minutes away for the Narita Skyliner. Together, they provide subway, JR, Shinkansen, and direct airport rail connections without placing guests inside a station building.
The hotel reopened after a 2023 renovation with 242 rooms, revised layouts for groups, and a dedicated 20-room Panda Floor. The playful touches contrast with the understated exterior, but this is still a compact city stay designed around transport rather than a large leisure complex.
Rooms
Published room categories range from 18 to 25 square metres. The 18-square-metre options include doubles, queens, and Hollywood-style twins. Separate-style twins measure 22 square metres, while 25-square-metre Superior Twins add a sofa bed for a third guest.
Layout matters here. Couples can choose a double or queen, two travelers may prefer the 22-square-metre twin for separate beds, and parties of three need the Superior Twin. All rooms became non-smoking during the 2023 refurbishment.
The Panda Floor turns 20 rooms and their corridor into a themed space. Six room variants carry the design into cushions, cups, and bathroom details, so it feels like a genuine room choice rather than a standard floor with a few decorative additions.
Facilities
Coin laundry is available on three guest floors, with microwaves on three others. Guests will usually have one of these facilities near their room, a convenient arrangement for a multi-night stay. In-room massage is also available for extra downtime.
There is no hotel car park. Spaces at a nearby paid car park can be arranged in advance, but arriving by rail is simpler.
Dining
Bosco il Chianti occupies the first floor and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Its breakfast buffet centers on Italian and Western dishes, with pasta and the restaurant's house salad dressing among the signatures. Japanese and vegetarian choices broaden the selection.
Three meal periods downstairs are helpful before an early start or on evenings when you don't want to cross Ueno again. Lunch and dinner hours or closures can change, so check the current service schedule if you plan to eat in.
Location and transport
The shortest approach is one minute from Exit 1 of Ueno Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza and Hibiya lines. JR's Asakusa Exit is about two minutes away, providing access to Yamanote Line trains and JR East Shinkansen services toward northern Japan and Hokuriku.
Keisei Ueno is a separate station, six minutes away on foot. Its direct Skyliner connection is the route to remember for Narita Airport. For Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen services toward Nagoya, Kyoto, or Osaka, travel through Tokyo Station instead.
Airport access
From Narita Airport, the Skyliner runs directly to Keisei Ueno, followed by a six-minute walk to the hotel. It isn't hotel-door service, but the train journey itself requires no changes.
Haneda routes require a transfer. Travelers can reach Ueno using either Keikyu and JR or the Tokyo Monorail and JR. Allow extra time for the change if you're carrying heavy luggage.
Why stay here
Early JR departures, subway-heavy sightseeing, and a final night before a Narita flight are easier to manage here. The Panda Floor and three-meal Italian restaurant add character beyond a bare-bones station stay, while the moderate room sizes keep expectations realistic.
The wider Tokyo-Ueno district can fill a day in its own right. Ueno Park brings together museums, a zoo, and Shinobazu Pond on the west side of the station, while Ameyoko's market streets extend south toward Okachimachi.
Good to know
The hotel is close to Ueno's trains but isn't directly connected to them. The one-minute route applies specifically to Metro Exit 1, not every Ueno entrance. JR and Keisei require separate approaches, so follow the operator and exit named in your route when arriving with luggage.
