Overview
A 10-acre Japanese garden with more than 400 years of history forms the heart of Hotel New Otani Tokyo. Across its Kioicho grounds, 1,389 rooms are divided among The Main, the 40-storey Garden Tower, and Executive House Zen, a smaller hotel-within-a-hotel occupying two floors of The Main.
The wing you book changes the experience. The Main is closest to many central facilities, the Garden Tower places rooms on much higher floors, and Executive House Zen adds a private lounge and extra services. Check the wing as carefully as the room name, especially if a short route to breakfast, the garden, or the station matters.
Rooms
Standard rooms in The Main measure 36 square metres, with double, twin, and triple layouts. Larger categories include 45- and 50-square-metre deluxe rooms, Japanese-style options, and suites. Some rooms face the garden, while others look across the city.
The Garden Tower contains the largest share of rooms and more high-floor choices, with deluxe rooms measuring roughly 50 to 61 square metres. Executive House Zen has 83 rooms, mainly 45 or 50 square metres before the suites, plus access to the Zen Lounge. The lounge handles private check-in and check-out and serves food and drinks at intervals throughout the day.
Facilities
The Japanese garden is part of the hotel, not a nearby attraction. Paths wind around ponds, stone lanterns, a waterfall, and mature trees, while illumination after dark gives the extensive complex a quieter centre despite its size and central Tokyo setting.
Guests can use workout rooms in The Main and Garden Tower without an extra charge. Golden Spa New Otani has a gym, indoor pool, and sauna, but standard hotel guests pay a visitor fee; access is included for Executive House Zen guests. The outdoor Garden Pool opens only during announced seasonal periods, so it isn't a year-round amenity.
Dining
The 36 restaurants and bars range from breakfast buffets and casual cafes to sushi, teppanyaki, Chinese, French, and kaiseki dining. Several venues overlook the garden or city, and room service runs from early morning until midnight.
That breadth helps during conferences, family stays, and evenings when you'd rather not travel elsewhere for dinner. Advance planning is still worthwhile: opening days, dress expectations, and age rules vary by venue, and reaching a restaurant from your room can take longer than expected in such a large hotel.
Location and transport
Akasaka-mitsuke Station is three minutes away through Exit D, providing direct access to the Ginza and Marunouchi lines. Nagatacho Station is also three minutes away from Exit 7 for the Hanzomon and Namboku lines, although that route includes many stairs. Akasaka-mitsuke is the better approach with a stroller or wheelchair.
Kojimachi Station is six minutes away, while Yotsuya Station is about eight minutes on foot and adds JR Chuo and Sobu services. This choice of stations supports subway trips around central Tokyo, though the multiple buildings and entrances make it important to know which wing you need before arriving.
The hotel is on the western side of Tokyo-Akasaka, between Akasaka, Nagatacho, Kojimachi, and Yotsuya. The State Guest House Akasaka Palace is nearby, while the Imperial Palace grounds, Hie Shrine, and Akasaka's dining streets fit naturally into broader central Tokyo plans.
Airport access
Airport transport requires careful planning. Direct limousine buses currently run only from Narita Airport to the hotel, with journeys taking about 120 to 140 minutes; they don't operate from the hotel back to Narita. Direct Haneda limousine-bus service is suspended.
For rail travel from Haneda, one listed route uses the Tokyo Monorail or Keikyu Line to Shimbashi, followed by the Ginza Line to Akasaka-mitsuke. From Narita, the listed rail options connect through Tokyo and Yotsuya or through Ueno and Akasaka-mitsuke. Check the current bus timetable before building a flight-day plan around door-to-door service.
Why stay here
A wide choice of double, twin, triple, Japanese-style, and suite layouts gives families and multigenerational groups room to compare, while extensive dining and services reduce the need to leave the complex. Executive House Zen adds a quieter level of service for guests who want lounge access within a very large hotel. Conference guests also have extensive meeting and event facilities on site.
Frequent Shinkansen journeys are easier from a hotel at Tokyo or Shinagawa Station, and a smaller hotel will take less time to navigate. The trade-off here is clear: more space, more facilities, and a landscaped setting in exchange for a complex layout and transport focused mainly on subway connections.
Good to know
Several connected buildings make up the hotel, so confirm the wing and reception point shown on your booking. Taxi passengers should name the intended entrance, not only the hotel.
Pool and spa access varies by room category and season. The Garden Pool has limited operating dates, while standard guests pay to use the Golden Spa. Airport-bus service is also restricted, with Narita and Haneda handled differently.
