Gojo provides a direct one-stop subway ride to Kyoto Station, which helps on arrival and departure days. Shijo is the better starting point for Nishiki Market, department stores, and the dining streets farther east. Both are close.
Rooms
The room mix is unusually clear: 95 singles and only eight twins. Solo stays are the main focus, so guests who need two separate beds should check the room category carefully when booking.
The standard twin measures 23 square meters and has two twin beds. The renovated rooms have bathtubs and workspaces; Wi-Fi and air conditioning cover the everyday basics. The emphasis is on a straightforward place to sleep and reset between days in the city.
Facilities
The 24-hour Garner Shop covers snacks, drinks, and everyday items without requiring a late-night trip outside. Complimentary tea, coffee, and filtered water are available in the lobby, while self-service laundry comes in handy on longer itineraries.
The hotel is smoke-free and relies on off-site parking rather than its own parking lot. If you're driving, arrange parking separately. Subway and walking routes are simpler for most stays.
Dining
Komeda Coffee occupies the ground floor and serves breakfast sets based on toast or a bread roll with a choice of toppings. Breakfast is purchased separately, and the cafe provides an easy place for coffee without turning the hotel into a full-service dining destination.
For lunch and dinner, the neighborhood matters more than the in-house choice. Shijo-Karasuma and the streets toward Nishiki Market and Kawaramachi have a broad selection of cafes, restaurants, department-store dining, and evening options.
Location and transport
The hotel is on Karasuma Street in Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma. Gojo and Shijo are both served by the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line, while Karasuma Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line is about eight minutes away on foot.
Use Gojo when traveling to or from Kyoto Station. Shijo is better for the central shopping district and walks toward Nishiki Market, Kawaramachi, and Gion. This two-stop position helps with everyday sightseeing, though long-distance travel days still require a short subway ride to the Shinkansen platforms.
Airport access
There is no hotel airport shuttle. Airport journeys generally run through Kyoto Station, followed by the direct Karasuma Line ride to Gojo or a taxi when luggage makes that easier.
Staying beside Kyoto Station would remove that final transfer. Staying here instead brings the Shijo shopping and dining district closer once you've checked in.
Why stay here
A one-stop subway ride from Kyoto Station keeps arrival reasonably simple, while the choice between Gojo and Shijo adds flexibility to daily plans. Mostly single rooms, IHG recognition, and uncomplicated services shape the stay, with the central location carrying more weight than extensive hotel facilities.
Central Kyoto opens out from Shijo. Nishiki Market and the city's largest shopping district are nearby, and the streets continue east toward Kawaramachi and Gion. Evenings therefore offer more variety than a stay focused entirely on the Kyoto Station area.
Good to know
The hotel isn't directly connected to either subway stop, so allow for the four-minute walk from Gojo or the five-minute walk from Shijo. Most rooms are singles, there is no airport shuttle or on-site parking, and Komeda Coffee serves as the breakfast venue rather than a full-service hotel restaurant.
