Overview
A three-minute downhill walk from Meguro Station, Gajoen Tokyo returns after renovation, with reservations currently available from July 27, 2026. The 60-room hotel is known for interiors displaying 2,500 works of Japanese art and craft. Its garden and extensive event facilities give the complex a scale that belies the modest room count.
Hyakudan Kaidan, the preserved wooden building known as the Hundred-Step Staircase, remains part of the complex. Dating from 1935 and protected as a cultural landmark by Tokyo, it opens for exhibitions and selected events rather than serving as an everyday hotel corridor.
Rooms
With only 60 rooms, the accommodation side remains relatively intimate. Suites exceeding 100 square meters provide a notably generous option by Tokyo standards, and all rooms are listed as non-smoking.
The reopening follows phased enhancements to the guestrooms and facilities. Reservations are already available for late July onward, though individual room categories and inclusions may continue to evolve during the transition, so compare the current specifications before booking.
Facilities
Art fills the public spaces rather than being confined to a single gallery. Hyakudan Kaidan is the best-known historic feature, although access depends on the exhibition or event calendar. A garden, spa, fitness center, and room service broaden the experience beyond the collection.
Events are a major part of the building. The current layout has 24 meeting rooms and 3,854 square meters of event space, including traditional rooms, Noh stages, and a ballroom of more than 760 square meters. Weddings and large gatherings may be visible in the public areas.
Dining
Four current venues cover Japanese and Chinese cooking, along with lounge and bar service. A paid buffet breakfast and room service are also available, so guests can dine within the hotel when its art, garden, or an event is the focus of the day.
Dining is part of the reopening program. Check operating days and reservation requirements for your dates, particularly if a specific restaurant is central to the stay.
Location and transport
The West Exit of Meguro Station is the nearest rail access point. The published walk takes three minutes, but the route descends Gyonin-zaka toward the Meguro River. The return feels different, especially with luggage.
Meguro brings together the JR Yamanote Line, Tokyu Meguro Line, Tokyo Metro Namboku Line, and Toei Mita Line. JR reaches Shibuya in two stops and also serves Shinagawa and Tokyo, while the underground lines provide routes toward Roppongi-itchome, Nagatacho, Hibiya, Otemachi, and southwest Tokyo. The hotel is in Tokyo-Ebisu / Meguro, but Meguro Station is the clear stop to use.
Airport access
The hotel doesn't provide a shuttle to Haneda or Narita Airport. Haneda is 13.5 kilometers away by road, and a common rail route uses the Yamanote Line to Shinagawa before transferring to the Keikyu Airport Line.
Narita is 74 kilometers away. Rail travel requires a transfer, such as changing at Shinagawa for the Narita Express. A taxi or private car may simplify some arrivals, but the journey time and cost depend heavily on traffic and the time of day.
Why stay here
Large rooms, art-filled interiors, a garden, and extensive dining and event spaces make the hotel part of the itinerary rather than simply a place to sleep. The short walk from Meguro Station helps, but the slope and continuing transition into the LXR brand are the main points to weigh before booking.
The Meguro River is about 300 meters away and provides a waterside walk that is especially popular during cherry-blossom season. Daienji is closer, while the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum and Institute for Nature Study are uphill on the east side of the station.

Reservations are currently available for stays from July 27, 2026. A formal debut as part of LXR Hotels & Resorts is expected by 2027 after phased enhancements. Check-in begins at 3:00 PM, and check-out is by noon. All rooms are non-smoking, pets aren't allowed, and covered self-parking is available for a daily fee.
