Overview
Comfort Hotel Kokura is a three-minute walk from the Shinkansen Exit at Kokura Station, on the Asano side of the tracks. That short approach helps with early trains, airport-bus arrivals, and events at the nearby exhibition and convention venues, although the hotel isn't directly connected to the station.
The setup is straightforward: 216 non-smoking rooms, complimentary breakfast, and a guest-only library cafe. Most rooms are compact doubles, so the convenient location and included services matter more than space or extensive leisure facilities.
Rooms
Most of the rooms are Economy Doubles, with 185 in total. Each measures 13 square metres and has one 140-centimetre-wide bed, while Standard Doubles provide a little more space at 15 square metres.
Standard Twins measure 20 square metres, and the single Universal Room measures 26 square metres. Every room is non-smoking and has a desk large enough for a laptop and papers. The tradeoff is room size.
Facilities
The second-floor Comfort Library Cafe provides space to work, read, or plan the next day outside the room. Open from 10:00 AM until midnight, it has complimentary coffee and tea, Wi-Fi, charging points, and more than 100 books.
Coin laundry is helpful for longer stays. Drivers can use 21 paid parking spaces on a first-come basis; nearby public parking is the alternative when those spaces are full.
Dining
A complimentary buffet breakfast is served in the library cafe from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM. The mostly Western-style selection includes smoothies, bread, and rotating hot dishes, with local yaki-udon adding a Kitakyushu note to the meal.
There isn't a full-service restaurant for lunch or dinner. AMU Plaza and the streets south of Kokura Station offer a broader choice after you walk through the station toward downtown.
Location and transport
Comfort Hotel Kokura is in Kokura Station Area, three minutes on foot from the Shinkansen Exit. The station serves the Sanyo Shinkansen, regional JR trains, the Kitakyushu Monorail, local buses, and airport coaches. Hakata is about 16 minutes away by Shinkansen, while local trains reach Mojiko in roughly 15 minutes.
The West Japan General Exhibition Center and Kitakyushu International Conference Center are on the same Asano side of the tracks. Central Kokura lies to the south; walk through the station for AMU Plaza, the shopping arcades, Tanga Market, and Kokura Castle.
Airport access
Direct buses connect Kitakyushu Airport with the wider Kokura Station area in about 33 minutes. They don't stop at the hotel, and the exact Kokura stop varies by service, so check the timetable and boarding point before matching a bus to your flight.
Reaching Fukuoka Airport requires a change at Hakata. Take the subway to Hakata Station, then continue to Kokura by Shinkansen. The route involves a transfer, but the hotel's short walk from Kokura Station keeps the final stage simple.
Why stay here
An early Shinkansen, a meeting in Asano, or an airport-bus arrival is easier to manage from three minutes outside the Shinkansen Exit. Complimentary breakfast and the library cafe add welcome shared space to a stay otherwise built around compact rooms and straightforward service.
Kokura's downtown sights remain walkable on the other side of the tracks. The shopping arcades, Tanga Market, and Kokura Castle can be combined in one outing, while a local train puts Mojiko's historic waterfront about 15 minutes away.
