What this station is useful for

Overview

Two stations carry the Amagasaki name, and this is the JR junction just west of Osaka. Amagasaki Station brings together the JR Kobe, Takarazuka, and Tozai lines, anchors Amagasaki Station Area, and is about six minutes from Osaka by rapid train.

The distinction matters. JR Amagasaki is the more convenient choice for JR journeys, while the castle and older streets are closer to Hanshin Amagasaki. On the north side, a hotel connects directly to the exit beside a large shopping complex; the Kansai Airport bus departs from the south side.

Lines and connections

The JR Kobe Line runs east through Osaka Station and Shin-Osaka Station toward Kyoto, and west toward Sannomiya Station and Kobe. The Takarazuka Line turns north for Takarazuka, while the Tozai Line provides a direct route to Kitashinchi and onward through central Osaka.

Rapid services reach Osaka in about six minutes, Shin-Osaka in about eleven, and Sannomiya in about sixteen. Because several routes meet here, check both the destination and service type before boarding.

Airport access

A direct limousine bus to Kansai International Airport departs from the south side of JR Amagasaki. The ride to Terminal 1 is scheduled to take about 65 minutes, although road traffic can affect the timing.

Reservations aren't required. Check the latest departure information and airport terminal before traveling, as some buses don't continue to Terminal 2.

Station area

The two sides serve different needs. The north exit leads to Amagasaki Q's Mall and Hotel Vischio Amagasaki, which connects directly to the exit and is about one minute away on foot. The airport bus stop is on the south side.

What's nearby

Amagasaki Q's Mall is the nearest place for shops and restaurants, linked to the north exit by a pedestrian deck. Amagasaki Castle is about five minutes on foot from Hanshin Amagasaki Station, not the JR station, so treat the castle district as a separate outing.

Good to know

JR Amagasaki and Hanshin Amagasaki belong to different rail networks and occupy different parts of the city. The Kansai Airport bus serves both stations, so check the stop name against your hotel directions or meeting point before boarding a train or bus.
