Overview
The arcade gives Matsuyama Okaido its shape. Okaido Shopping Arcade becomes Gintengai to the south and continues toward Matsuyama City Station. At the northern end, crossing the road brings you to Ropeway Street and the approach to the Matsuyama Castle ropeway.
Okaido Station serves the district by tram, and the Matsuyama Airport limousine bus stops nearby. This part of Matsuyama is geared toward castle sightseeing by day and central restaurants at night. JR train platforms and Dogo's hot-spring atmosphere are elsewhere.
What the area is known for
Okaido Shopping Arcade is broad, covered, and pedestrian-only. Shops and places to eat line the route, with Matsuyama Mitsukoshi and AEL Matsuyama near its northern end. The cover makes a real difference during rain or strong summer sun.
Gintengai extends the covered shopping route from the southern end. Ropeway Street feels different: it's open-air, with cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops along the way to the castle ropeway.
Main places
The Matsuyama Castle ropeway station is about five minutes on foot from the Okaido tram stop. From there, the ropeway or chairlift climbs the castle hill, followed by a further walk to the castle entrance.

Stations and access
Okaido Station is part of the Iyotetsu City Tram network. Typical tram journeys take about 13 minutes from JR Matsuyama Station and eight minutes from Matsuyama City Station. Trams also continue toward Dogo Onsen.
Airport access is direct by limousine bus rather than rail. Buses between Matsuyama Airport and Dogo Onsen stop at Okaido, so travelers staying near the arcade don't need to transfer at a larger station. Check the current timetable and boarding point before traveling.
Where it fits in a trip
Downtown meals, covered shopping, and the castle approach are the main reasons to stay here. The tram handles local trips toward Dogo Onsen, while the airport bus avoids a separate city transfer on arrival or departure.
For broader Iyotetsu rail and bus connections, including the tourist-port bus, compare Okaido with Matsuyama City Station Area. JR Matsuyama is a better match when daily plans depend on JR departure times. Dogo Onsen is the stronger choice for an onsen-centered visit.
Good to know
Okaido Station is a tram stop, not Matsuyama's main rail station. The covered arcades help in poor weather, but Ropeway Street and the castle approach are outdoors.
Many other buses use the airport bus stop. Confirm the correct boarding point and timetable, particularly for an early flight.
