Overview
Downtown Kyoto is the main attraction at Prince Smart Inn Kyoto Sanjo, a 137-room hotel near the Teramachi and Shinkyogoku shopping streets. Kawaramachi Sanjo and the Kamo River are also within the wider neighborhood. The exterior draws on Kyoto's machiya townhouses, while nostalgic interior details are balanced by a cleaner, contemporary look.
The stay is deliberately streamlined. Guests can use the hotel app for much of the arrival and departure process, while shared facilities focus on everyday needs rather than an elaborate hotel experience.
Rooms
Rooms are compact. Standard Twin A measures 17 square metres and has a shower, while the 22-square-metre Twin B provides more floor space and a bathtub. The Standard Double has a 140 cm bed and is the simplest option for one guest or a couple travelling light.
All rooms are non-smoking. A 26-square-metre Universal Twin provides a wheelchair-accessible layout, though reservations for this room must be made by phone.
Facilities
Free luggage lockers for hotel guests are available on the first floor. On the third floor, coin-operated laundry machines, an ice maker, and a microwave cover the everyday needs of a short stay.
Check-in begins at 3:00 PM, and checkout is by 11:00 AM. Eligible guests can use the hotel app for smartphone check-in, a mobile room key, and app checkout.
Dining
PARiS&CANDY Kyoto Sanjo serves breakfast on the first floor from 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM. What's included depends on the booked plan. Some guests receive a light breakfast, while a fuller option adds rotating savoury items and meat dishes.
Takeout is available. It's handy when an early sightseeing start leaves little time for a longer meal at the hotel.
Location and transport
Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the Tozai Line is about five minutes away on foot via Exit 7 of the Zest Oike underground shopping area. Sanjo Station on the Keihan Main Line is about eight minutes away, providing another rail option for Kyoto's east side and Keihan services toward Osaka.
The surrounding Kyoto-Kawaramachi area keeps downtown shopping, restaurants, Pontocho, and riverside walks closer than a stay beside the main JR station would. Reaching Kyoto Station by subway requires a change from the Tozai Line to the Karasuma Line at Karasuma Oike.
Why stay here
Evenings downtown are easier from this address. Teramachi, Shinkyogoku, Pontocho, and the Kamo River can shape the stay rather than being places you simply pass through, while two nearby rail routes support trips beyond the immediate neighborhood.
Travellers planning early Shinkansen departures or frequent JR day trips may prefer the Kyoto Station area. Here, the payoff is a more central location for shopping, dining, and walks after returning from a day out.
Good to know
Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station is not Kyoto Station. The subway journey between them requires a change at Karasuma Oike, which matters when you're travelling with luggage.
