Overview
Across from the Hachijo side of Kyoto Station, Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo is about two minutes from the JR, Shinkansen, and Kintetsu entrances, while the subway is about five minutes away. This is a large, full-service hotel rather than a compact place to sleep between trains. Its scale brings family rooms, a wide dining selection, staffed luggage storage, and extensive event space.
The location simplifies Shinkansen arrivals, early departures, and Kyoto stays organized around rail day trips. Families and groups also gain room layouts that can be difficult to find at smaller nearby hotels.
Rooms
Rooms are divided between the Main Building and South Wing. Entry-level singles measure 19 square metres, while many doubles, twins, and fixed-bed triples range from 21 to 31 square metres. Renewed in 2023, the Premium Floor offers 31-square-metre twin rooms with separate bath and toilet areas.
Groups have several larger options. The 46-square-metre South Wing Family Room sleeps up to four and adds a living area and a bathroom with a washing space. A 56-square-metre Japanese-style room accommodates up to five, while the 59-square-metre Premium Deluxe Family Room sleeps four to six. The South Wing also has a 30-square-metre accessible room.
Facilities
The staffed cloakroom accepts luggage before check-in and after checkout, which helps when train times don't match the room schedule. Self check-in machines offer another option during busy periods, while the concierge can assist with local information, restaurant reservations, and taxis.
Hotel parking is available. Other services include same-day laundry for items handed in before the morning cutoff, parcel delivery, and a rentable work pod for small meetings. A substantial collection of banquet and meeting rooms supports larger events.
Dining
The range of on-site dining is unusually broad for the Hachijo area. Options include a buffet restaurant, a casual dining café and bar, Chinese and Japanese restaurants, a lobby lounge, and a separate bar. A basement roastery café provides a lighter alternative.
That variety is handy when members of a group want different meals, or when an arrival day leaves little appetite for another trip across the city.
Location and transport
The Hachijo-side position keeps the Shinkansen, Kintetsu trains, and local JR services close. Kintetsu is convenient for Nara, while JR lines serve destinations such as Fushimi Inari, Uji, Osaka, and western Kyoto. The Karasuma subway line runs north through central Kyoto, though its entrance is farther from the hotel than the Hachijo-side rail gates.
Buses and taxis depart from several points around the rail complex. Kyoto Station is large, so the correct side matters: the hotel is south of the tracks, opposite the Hachijo exits, not on the Kyoto Tower side.
Airport access
The JR Haruka runs directly between Kyoto and Kansai International Airport. Limousine buses connect the Hachijo side with Osaka Itami Airport in about 50 minutes. Neither service stops at the hotel door, but the final walk is short.
Why stay here
Close rail connections come with more space and service than a limited-service hotel generally provides. Rooms for four to six guests and multiple dining choices give families and groups added flexibility, while parking and meeting facilities also support business trips and events. The tradeoff is scale: this is a busy, full-service hotel rather than a small, intimate stay in one of Kyoto's older neighborhoods.
The surrounding Kyoto Station Area has extensive shopping and dining within the rail complex. Beyond it, To-ji is to the southwest, Higashi Hongan-ji is north of the tracks, and the Umekoji district to the west is home to Kyoto Railway Museum and Kyoto Aquarium.
Good to know
The hotel is close to Kyoto Station but isn't inside or directly connected to it. The advertised two-minute walk applies to the Hachijo-side JR, Shinkansen, and Kintetsu entrances; the subway is about five minutes away. The distinction matters with luggage. Follow signs for the Hachijo side rather than the north side and Kyoto Tower.
