Overview
Just two minutes on foot from Kintetsu Nara Station, Kasuga Hotel is a 30-room ryokan immediately west of Kofukuji. Its location keeps Nara Park's major sights close, while tatami rooms, seasonal kaiseki, and shared baths provide a traditional place to return to after sightseeing.
Meals and bathing are central to the stay. The public bathing area has indoor baths and garden open-air pools, while selected rooms have private open-air or semi-open-air baths. Despite their design, these use heated tap water rather than natural hot-spring water.
Rooms
Room choice matters. Options include 10-tatami Japanese rooms, standard twins, and Japanese-modern twins. Larger Japanese-Western layouts combine beds with a tatami sitting area, and selected rooms add a private open-air or semi-open-air bath.
Not every room has a private bath. If bathing in your room is important, check the exact room name before booking.
Facilities
The shared bathing area includes indoor baths and two garden open-air settings, one built around rock and the other around stone. It opens during morning and evening hours, with the men's and women's sides switching overnight.
Free parking is limited to 15 vehicles. Drivers should contact the hotel in advance, although spaces are still assigned on a first-come basis.
Dining
Seasonal kaiseki is the main dining feature, using ingredients and dishes associated with Nara. Depending on the menu, dinner may include Yamato beef, while tea porridge is among the hotel's local breakfast specialties. Exact dishes change with the season.
Location and transport
Kintetsu Nara Station is two minutes away on foot. Kintetsu trains connect central Nara with Osaka-Namba and Kyoto, while local buses continue from the station to places deeper within Nara Park.
Kofukuji is beside the hotel, and Nara Park begins just beyond it. Walk south from the station area for the covered shopping streets and the historic lanes of Naramachi.
Airport access
Airport limousine buses aren't consistently available at Kintetsu Nara. Current Kansai Airport arrivals and Itami services use the JR side of central Nara, so most airport trips require a taxi or local transfer between the bus stop and the hotel. Check the latest timetable before relying on the limited Kintetsu stop.
Why stay here
Early starts in Nara Park are easier from here. The station is two minutes away, while Kofukuji and the park-side walking routes begin almost outside. After a day on foot, the ryokan format keeps dinner and bathing under one roof.
Nara Park rewards an early walk before its temple district grows busy. Later, Naramachi offers a slower change of pace among merchant houses, cafes, and craft shops south of the station.
Good to know
This isn't an onsen. Both the public baths and the open-air or semi-open-air baths in selected rooms use heated tap water.
Final check-in is at 7:00 pm. Parking is free but limited to 15 vehicles, so drivers should contact the hotel before arrival.
