Overview
A three-minute indoor walk from Sapporo Station's East Ticket Gate leads through JR Tower to JR Tower Hotel Nikko Sapporo. Its 330 non-smoking rooms occupy floors 23 to 34, with broad city views above the connected complex's trains, shops, and restaurants.
That sheltered route matters in Sapporo's snow and rain. Airport arrivals, early JR departures, and luggage-heavy transfers don't require an exposed street walk. High-floor restaurants and a natural hot-spring spa offer good reasons to remain inside after checking in.
Rooms
Room choice starts with space and outlook. Moderate Singles measure 18.6 to 20 square meters, while Moderate Twins provide 30 square meters. Large windows are standard, and most bathrooms have a separate washing area, though some categories use a unit bath.
Corner Twins expand to 40 square meters, accommodate up to three guests, and have wide windows that reveal more of the skyline. Executive rooms occupy floors 31 to 34 and include a noon checkout. On the 34th floor, the 63-square-meter Suite separates the living and sleeping areas and provides both a bathroom and a dedicated shower room.
Facilities
Sky Resort Spa Pulau Bulan occupies the 22nd floor, about 100 meters above the city. Its natural hot-spring water comes from 1,000 meters below the south side of Sapporo Station. Separate men's and women's areas contain hot baths, cold baths, saunas, and relaxation lounges.
The spa is limited to guests aged 18 or older and carries an additional admission charge, including for hotel guests. Registered guests also receive morning access, when only the hot-spring and jet baths operate. Luggage storage at the Bell Desk and connected paid parking cover the main arrival-day needs.
Dining
Breakfast is served in two restaurants on the 35th floor. SKY J lays out a Hokkaido-focused buffet with seafood, cheeses, breads, and cooked-to-order egg dishes. TANCHO pairs a smaller buffet with a choice of Japanese or sashimi breakfast sets. Both come with high-level views across Sapporo.
Later, SKY J continues with lunch, dinner, and bar service, while TANCHO serves Japanese lunch and dinner. Mikuni Sapporo provides French course dining on the ninth floor of Sapporo Stellar Place, and the Lobby Lounge serves coffee, light meals, and afternoon tea. Having this range indoors is welcome after a late arrival or when snow makes another trip across town unappealing.
Location and transport
JR Sapporo Station is directly connected, with its East Ticket Gate about three minutes away indoors. Trains serve New Chitose Airport and Otaru, along with longer routes across Hokkaido, so early departures and returns after a long rail day are easier to manage.
Sapporo's Namboku and Toho subway lines are also available through the station complex. Both travel one stop to Odori, and the Namboku Line continues directly to Susukino. Those districts remain easy to reach, but their restaurants and nightlife aren't immediately outside the hotel entrance.
Airport access
JR Airport trains run directly between New Chitose Airport and Sapporo Station. The fastest Special Rapid services take about 33 minutes, while Rapid trains can complete the journey in about 37 minutes. From the East Ticket Gate, the indoor route avoids a street-level transfer with luggage.
A flat-rate taxi can also operate between the airport and the hotel's main entrance. Advance booking is required, so it isn't an on-demand alternative to the train after arrival.
Why stay here
The indoor station connection takes much of the friction out of airport transfers, early JR departures, and train trips around Hokkaido, particularly in winter. High-floor views, an extensive spa, and several dining choices make this more than a basic station-side stay. The tradeoff is the distance from Susukino's immediate restaurant and nightlife scene.
On an arrival day, the Sapporo Station Area provides plenty to do without crossing town. Department-store food halls, shopping, and JR Tower Observatory T38 are all beside the station, covering meals, errands, and another elevated city view.
Good to know
The spa is scheduled to close for repairs from November 1 through November 21, 2026. Its regular facilities are due to reopen at noon on November 22; the guest-only morning session will remain closed that day.
Redevelopment around Sapporo Station may cause noise or vibration in guest rooms. A road near the main entrance is also scheduled to remain closed to vehicle traffic until approximately March 31, 2031, changing the approach for cars and taxis.
