Overview
About two minutes on foot from Kyoto Station's Hachijo Exit, Hotel Vischio Kyoto by GRANVIA is well positioned for Shinkansen arrivals and airport buses stopping along Hachijo-dori. It is outside the station building, so reaching it involves a short street walk.
The location leaves more of an arrival or departure day for Kyoto itself. Back indoors, the hotel has public baths, a guest lounge, and a substantial breakfast. Smaller doubles and twins serve solo travelers and couples, while families and groups can book rooms with four beds.
Rooms
Moderate Doubles and Moderate Twins both measure 21.5 square meters, so the main decision at that level is one bed or two. The 28.8-square-meter Superior Twin accommodates up to three guests. For four people, the 39.5-square-meter Family Room provides four beds and a living area where everyone can gather.
All rooms are non-smoking. Separate washbasins and toilets make it easier for two or more guests to get ready at the same time. Bedding follows Hotel Granvia Kyoto's specifications, and Wi-Fi is available throughout the guest rooms.
A women-only accommodation area with security-controlled entry is next to the public baths. Its Moderate Twins have the same 21.5-square-meter floor area as the standard category, so restricted access and location, rather than additional space, are the distinguishing features.
Facilities
The second-floor public baths open in the morning and again from mid-afternoon until 1 a.m. The men's section has a dry sauna and cold-water bath, while the women's has a mist sauna. Guests should bring towels from their rooms. Late returns after dinner still leave time for a bath.
Overnight guests aged 15 and older can use the fitness room free of charge. It has cardio equipment and dumbbells. Paid self-service laundry is available around the clock.
On the first floor, the guest-only lounge serves complimentary coffee, tea, and other drinks. Books and Kyoto sightseeing pamphlets are available for browsing while planning the next day. Open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., the lounge also has Wi-Fi and charging points for guests who want somewhere to relax outside their rooms.
Dining
Vischio Garden serves breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with last entry at 10:30 a.m. That broad window accommodates both early trains and slower starts.
The menu uses Kyoto ingredients and seasonings. Examples include gratin with sweet Saikyo miso, wagyu sukiyaki in small casserole dishes, and steaks prepared in the open kitchen. Seasonal dishes change, so these examples indicate the style rather than a guaranteed menu for every stay.
Location and transport
Remember the Hachijo Exit when finding the hotel. Kyoto Station's north-side Central Exit faces a different part of the city, and leaving by the wrong side adds a walk through the rail complex. The quoted two-minute walk also doesn't include the time needed to reach the exit from your platform.
For sightseeing, the JR Nara Line serves Inari Station for Fushimi Inari Shrine and continues toward Uji. The Sagano Line reaches Saga-Arashiyama, while the Karasuma subway line runs north toward the shopping streets around Shijo. These services depart from different parts of Kyoto Station, so allow time to find the correct platform.
Airport access
The JR Haruka limited express runs directly from Kansai International Airport to Kyoto Station. No onward train is needed to reach the hotel; follow signs for the Hachijo side, then continue on foot.
Airport limousine buses from Kansai and Osaka Itami airports also stop at Kyoto Station's Hachijo Exit. Depending on the service, the hotel is roughly one to two minutes on foot from the bus stop. Taking the bus can reduce luggage handling inside the station, although road traffic may affect arrival times.
Why stay here
The short walk to Kyoto Station simplifies onward rail travel and day trips beyond the city. For a group of four, the Family Room provides four separate beds and space to sit together.
There is sightseeing on this side of the tracks too. Toji Temple is about a 15-minute walk from the Hachijo Exit, with its five-story pagoda and a large market held on the 21st of each month. You can visit the temple before returning to collect bags or catch a train.
Good to know
The hotel has no car park. For rail travelers, free same-day luggage storage before check-in and after checkout allows time for sightseeing without carrying bags.
