Overview
Hotel Okura Kobe rises 35 floors above the Meriken Park waterfront, close to Kobe Port Tower and the Kobe Maritime Museum. The harbor is outside the door, while Nankinmachi and the Former Foreign Settlement are within walking reach in the Kobe Motomachi / Nankinmachi district.
With 468 rooms, broad dining choices, banquet facilities, and a paid fitness club, this is a full-service city stay rather than a compact place to sleep. The views are central to the choice. Depending on the room, windows look across Kobe Port, Harborland, the city, or the Rokko mountains.
Rooms
Guest rooms occupy floors 6 through 33. Main, Authentic, and Sky View floors provide standard and deluxe layouts, while suites and Japanese-Western rooms offer more space. Standard doubles and twins measure roughly 27 to 29 square metres, and deluxe rooms begin at 37 square metres.
Room category and window direction both matter. Sky View rooms are on floors 28 through 33, with outlooks toward the harbor, Harborland, city lights, or the mountains. Suites begin at 74 square metres, and the largest layouts add separate living and sleeping rooms.
Facilities
The fitness club has a 25-metre indoor pool, gym, sauna and bath, tennis courts, and seasonal outdoor pools. Hotel guests pay a separate one-time charge, and some areas have age requirements. It's a substantial leisure setup, but admission isn't automatically included with every room.
Parking accommodates up to 500 cars. Shops, a convenience store, a clinic, and beauty services add to the range of facilities expected from a large waterfront complex.
Dining
Dining spans casual meals and formal occasions, with Western and Asian cuisines, a buffet, and a main bar. Teppanyaki, sushi, and tempura counters bring seafood and Kobe beef into the in-house selection, so a late arrival or rainy day doesn't require a return to the shopping streets for dinner.
Breakfast is served as a Japanese and Western buffet, with freshly baked bread, made-to-order omelettes, and Hotel Okura's French toast among the signature choices. Room service provides another option for starting or ending the day with a harbor view.
Location and transport
Minato-Motomachi Station on the Kaigan Line is about five minutes away on foot. JR and Hanshin Motomachi Station are roughly ten minutes away, with east-west routes toward Sannomiya, Osaka, Kobe, and western Hyogo.
A complimentary shuttle runs daily between the hotel and Sannomiya, using a stop on the first floor of MINT KOBE beside JR Sannomiya. On Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, selected services continue to Shin-Kobe for the Sanyo Shinkansen. The Shin-Kobe leg doesn't run every day, so check the current timetable.
Airport access
The Port Liner connects Kobe Airport with Sannomiya in about 18 minutes. From there, continue by hotel shuttle or taxi. This is a two-stage public transport journey, not a direct airport train to the hotel.
Limousine buses from Kansai International Airport and Osaka Itami Airport also serve the Sannomiya district. The complimentary shuttle can cover the final leg when the schedules align; with heavy luggage or a late flight, a taxi is the simpler fallback.
Why stay here
Harbor views, larger standard rooms, extensive dining, and substantial leisure facilities distinguish Hotel Okura Kobe from a compact station-side stay. In return, expect a five- to ten-minute walk from the nearest stations or reliance on the Sannomiya shuttle, plus separate fitness club fees.
Meriken Park places Kobe Port Tower, the Maritime Museum, and the BE KOBE monument outside or close to the hotel grounds. Walk inland for Nankinmachi and the Former Foreign Settlement, or follow the waterfront west toward Harborland and its evening views.
Good to know
The hotel is in Meriken Park rather than beside Sannomiya Station. Minato-Motomachi provides the shortest walk, JR and Hanshin Motomachi offer broader regional rail connections, and the free shuttle is often the easiest option when arriving through Sannomiya.
Shin-Kobe shuttle service is limited to Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. Fitness club admission costs extra for hotel guests, so compare the current charge before booking if the pool, gym, sauna, or bath is important to your stay.
