Overview
Streetcars now arrive inside Hiroshima Station, directly below Hotel Granvia Hiroshima South Gate. Occupying the upper floors of the South Gate building above minamoa, the hotel connects to the JR complex, so guests can reach the lobby from a train or streetcar without leaving the station building.
This is the south-side Granvia. The original Hotel Granvia Hiroshima is on the Shinkansen Gate side, closer to the airport-bus platforms. Both connect to the same rail hub, but South Gate is more convenient for streetcar trips into central Hiroshima.
Rooms
The hotel's 380 rooms occupy floors 9 to 21. Standard doubles start at 20 square meters, while 29-square-meter corner rooms give couples more space. Connecting twins can accommodate up to six guests, larger triple rooms have a separate living area, and an accessible twin is also available.
Every room has a separate bathroom and toilet. The outlook depends on room direction: some face the city or distant Seto Inland Sea, while others overlook Shinkansen and local trains. Bookings on the Concept Floor, located on floors 20 and 21, add afternoon drinks and snacks, a late-evening nightcap service, and breakfast at UmiShima Dining.
Facilities
The front desk is on the 7th floor rather than at street level. Automated check-in kiosks can shorten the arrival process, while self-service lockers hold luggage before check-in or after check-out. Both are handy when a train schedule leaves time to spare.
Dining
UmiShima Dining shares the 7th floor with the lobby. Its live kitchen and use of Setouchi ingredients shape the breakfast buffet and later meals, with dinner continuing into bar service.
Between meal periods, the cafe and bar serves drinks and light refreshments. Window counter seats have Wi-Fi and power outlets, giving guests a comfortable place to wait without leaving the building.
Location and transport
Direct access to Hiroshima Station is the main logistical advantage. Shinkansen and local JR platforms are within the complex, and the second-floor streetcar platforms connect directly to the South Gate building. Local buses and taxis are downstairs.
For sightseeing, streetcars run toward the Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park. JR trains are usually faster for a Miyajima day trip via Miyajimaguchi, while Kure Line services cover coastal trips east of Hiroshima.
Airport access
Hiroshima Airport limousine buses serve the station's Shinkansen Gate rather than the South Gate. The scheduled ride takes about 45 to 50 minutes, after which you'll need to cross the station complex to reach the hotel. Road conditions can extend the journey.
Why stay here
When an itinerary combines city streetcars with JR day trips, staying above the South Gate removes an extra outdoor walk. Room layouts cover solo stays, couples, and larger groups. For the shortest route to an airport bus or an early Shinkansen, however, the original Granvia on the north side has the edge.
The location also simplifies two very different Hiroshima days. Streetcars head into the memorial district, while JR services begin the journey toward Miyajima.
Good to know
The two Granvia hotels are on opposite sides of Hiroshima Station. They are separate hotels. Check your reservation before following signs, and use the South Gate entrance for this one.
