Overview
Hot-spring bathing occupies the top floor of Hotel Amanek Hida Takayama, just three minutes on foot from the East Exit of Takayama Station. Opened in October 2025, the hotel has 153 non-smoking rooms, while its Takayama Station Area location keeps long-distance trains and highway buses close.
The old town is within walking distance too. You can arrive with luggage, use the hotel for rail or bus day trips, and explore Takayama's historic streets without another transfer.
Rooms
Every room is at least 20 square metres and accommodates two or more guests. The 20-square-metre Superior Queen and Superior Twin suit couples or pairs, while the 29-square-metre Deluxe Twin adds a futon for a third guest. Most layouts separate the shower, washbasin, and toilet, which helps when two people are getting ready.
The Family Room connects a Superior Twin with a Deluxe Twin, providing 49 square metres for up to five guests. It's an adjoining-room arrangement rather than a single open-plan family suite. A 29-square-metre Accessible Twin has a barrier-free bathroom and accommodates up to three guests.
Facilities
The top floor has a large hot-spring bath overlooking Takayama. Next to it, the thermal spring spa and sauna are co-ed and require swimwear or a bathing garment. Guests planning to use these shared areas should pack suitable clothing or rent a bathing garment at the hotel.
Elsewhere, the lounge provides space to relax outside the rooms, and coin laundry is helpful on longer trips. Luggage storage, ice, vending machines, and a microwave cover the everyday basics.
Dining
Breakfast is served in the second-floor lounge from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The Japanese and Western spread uses local ingredients, with regional dishes such as Takayama ramen and salmon grilled with hoba miso. It's a more place-specific start than a generic continental buffet.
For dinner, the hotel's HEYAZUKE system works with participating restaurants around Takayama. Guests can pay with their room key at listed venues and settle the combined bill at checkout, keeping meals around town connected to the stay.
Location and transport
Takayama Station and the neighboring Nohi Bus Center are both about three minutes away. Limited Express Hida trains run toward Nagoya and Toyama, while highway buses connect Takayama with destinations that rail doesn't serve as directly, including Shirakawa-go and the Okuhida hot-spring area. The short walk helps when the day begins with a reserved bus or ends after a long train ride.
Takayama's historic core lies in the other direction. Takayama Jinya, the old merchant streets, and the morning markets are all part of the central walking area, so staying near the station doesn't leave you removed from the main sightseeing district.
Airport access
Allow roughly four hours from Chubu Centrair International Airport. The usual rail journey runs through Nagoya, using a Meitetsu airport train followed by the Limited Express Hida to Takayama; airport and highway buses offer another route through the city. There is no hotel-door shuttle, so check the full timetable before committing to a late arrival or early flight.
Why stay here
A three-minute walk from the station eases luggage-heavy arrivals and early rail or bus departures. Back at the hotel, the top-floor baths and spa provide genuine downtime, while the larger room layouts give families and small groups options beyond a compact twin.
Takayama's old town developed around merchant streets that still contain traditional buildings, craft shops, food stalls, and sake breweries. Nearby morning markets add local produce and handmade goods, so an early walk through the historic center is easy to include in a station-focused stay.
Good to know
The thermal spring spa and sauna are mixed-gender areas, so swimwear or a bathing garment is required; this rule is separate from the main hot-spring bath. The Family Room uses adjoining rooms rather than one open layout. Hotel parking is first come, first served, with 15 spaces on site and another 25 in a second lot.
