Overview

The building is part of the experience. Citadines Namba Osaka occupies part of the restored Takashimaya East Annex, a former department store completed in phases from 1928 to 1937 and recognized by the national government as important cultural heritage in 2021. Its European-influenced facade and Art Deco details bring a sense of history to an otherwise modern serviced residence.

Stays can range from a single night to a longer visit. The 313-unit residence is on the eastern side of Osaka-Namba, six minutes from Nippombashi Station and about ten minutes from Osaka Metro Namba. Kuromon Market, Den Den Town, and Namba's shopping and entertainment streets are close enough to become part of an ordinary day rather than a separate excursion.

Rooms

Room choice is unusually broad for central Osaka. Studios start at 20 square meters, while deluxe, executive, and premier rooms give couples or friends more space. One-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments add separate living areas, and family or connecting configurations accommodate larger groups.

Published layouts extend to 94 square meters in the largest connected arrangement. Kitchens and washer-dryers simplify self-catering and longer visits, especially for families or anyone breaking up a multi-city trip with a few slower days. If privacy matters within a group, compare the apartment and connecting options rather than looking only at total occupancy.

Facilities

The residents' lounge provides space to work, eat, or relax outside the room. A 24-hour fitness corner and children's playroom serve different needs, while self-service laundry supports longer stays. Meeting rooms can also be booked for business use.

These facilities become more valuable over several days. Parents have an indoor place where children can play, business guests can arrange meeting space, and the laundry options reduce how much clothing you'll need for a longer itinerary.

Dining

Numero 5 serves a Japanese-Western breakfast buffet in a casual Italian-style setting. The building also contains Gion Kitagawa Hanbee Namba, a Kyoto tea house where guests can stop for tea and sweets instead of visiting another general hotel restaurant.

For lunch and dinner, the surrounding neighborhood offers greater variety. Kuromon Market lies to the north, while Nipponbashi and the streets toward Namba have plenty of casual choices within walking distance.

Location and transport

Nippombashi Station is about six minutes away and serves the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji and Sennichimae lines, with a connection to Kintetsu-Nippombashi for trains toward Nara. It's the simpler station for east-west subway trips across Minami and journeys that begin on the Sakaisuji or Kintetsu networks.

Osaka Metro's Namba Station is about ten minutes away. The Midosuji Line runs directly to Shinsaibashi, Umeda, and Shin-Osaka, while the wider Namba station area adds Nankai airport trains, Kintetsu and Hanshin services, and JR Namba. The platforms are spread across several blocks, so the right route depends on the operator rather than the shared Namba name.

Airport access

Nankai trains connect the Namba station area directly with Kansai International Airport. The fastest Rapi:t services take about 34 minutes and Airport Express trains about 43 minutes, followed by the walk between Nankai Namba and the hotel.

The airport journey doesn't require a rail transfer, but this isn't a station-connected stay. Travelers with heavy luggage should allow time for the street-level approach and check the exact Nankai entrance before arrival.

Why stay here

The heritage setting and unusually flexible room lineup distinguish Citadines from the compact business hotels around Namba. Families, small groups, and longer-stay guests gain kitchens, laundry support, and larger layouts while remaining within walking distance of two useful station areas.

The neighborhood changes character throughout the day. Kuromon Market is busiest around food and shopping, Den Den Town centers on electronics and pop culture, and Dotonbori brings restaurants, signs, and canal-side activity after dark. You won't need a train for every outing.

Good to know

Citadines is east of Namba's main station cluster. Nippombashi is closer for the Sakaisuji, Sennichimae, and Kintetsu networks; Nankai Namba matters for Kansai Airport trains, while Osaka Metro Namba is the better target for the Midosuji Line.

The building's heritage status doesn't mean the accommodation is traditional in style. Expect a modern serviced residence within a carefully restored commercial landmark.
